As a /lit/ fag my whole life ive slowly started taking interest in the sciences and maths in general(specificaly mathematics). Im crushed with regret and feel absolutely wretched that I have yet to learn anything in any of these fields Chemistry,mathematics,Geology,astronomy etc etc. I dont even know the difference between these fields.... im going to uni next fall and the more I hang around these boards and even /lit/ itself the more I discover English and Philosophy are shit majors, Mathematis and geology look fun but I have no idea what they entail

How do I even know that other people are even conscious?

More and more I feel like people are NPC's. They are basically robots. I used to think that maybe 50% of people are NPCs but now I think closer to 95%.

If I kick a dog it will jump back in pain but you could potentially build a robot to do exactly that. How would I differentiate a 'conscious' being from a robot or would a robot that would react in pain would obtain consciousness by virtue of being able to do so?

We're not talking about logical arguments in regard to how one should specifically construct the physical models themselves. We're talking about logical arguments for broadly doing science in the first place, and how it can be justified. Protip: It can only be justified with logical arguments. If I ask you why the scientific method works, how can you ever give me a response without appealing to logical arguments? "Just go out and try X yourself" is not a valid response, because how can I ever justifiably validate something with empirical evidence in the first place if I haven't logically deduced beforehand what constitutes as evidence?
