Can't blame me for trying.

Consider lim 1/x as x ->0 from above, then from below.

They are different. this isn't any rigorous argument, but it will perhaps show some problems in defining what 1/0 is

I'm not sure. We have no hope of unifying everything when we cannot even work out gravity on it's own yet.

because infinity isn't a number. It's not well defined in the field you're working in. Because we have infinity+1=infinity, it has to be isolated as a special point.

A more concrete way to define infinity is to look at the extended complex plane and the riemann sphere, look it up.

>10/x equals ∞

here's your mistake. That expression doesn't make sense.

no certainly not. I'm not one of these ubermaths geniuses, though there are certainly some of those about. I'm just relatively hard working, and maybe a little bit of spark to help me on my way

I think I prefer analysis, though at the moment i'm moving my studies into mathematical physics.

I don't understand what you're asking. It doesn't really make sense to say a limit equals infinity

I had interviews, then sat the STEP cambridge admission test. As far as it being hard, I don't know, difficulty is relative to the person, but it was certainly easier to get in than it is to keep up with the material

Nope, though there is certainly a higher number of religious people here than is average in the UK.
