Oh. That was how I had been using in this thread anyway, haha.

Back on track -- yeah, I don't believe all action is done selfishly.

Then why do people fulfill obligations when leaving them unfulfilled would benefit them more? I don't believe it's an act of selfishness -- they feel a sense of duty, that they ought to keep their promises.

You could claim that keeping promises brings some sort of satisfaction, but that begs the question, why does keeping a promise bring satisfaction? Because it is the right thing to do? Well, why is it the right thing to do? Because it brings satisfaction?

Ahahahahaha:

Salim,

As your former editor, I was extremely disappointed at having read this. The topic you’ve chosen to undertake is a non-issue. What did you hope to gain from promoting a conversation regarding the supremacy of certain fields of study? It’s not a contest, nor should it be. The fact that you bring this to public conversation only to assert your narrow viewpoint is a flagrant misuse of your privilege (never a right) as a collegiate journalist. I hope you take some lessons from this.

Never write for self-gratification. If that was not your intention, it sure reads like it. And in this business, you should know that seeming is just as bad as being.

Editors: It’s your duty to help your writers through the process of becoming cogent and compelling. What happened?

It means "approaching from the right," as in the positive side of the graph. "-" would mean from the left/negative side.

This can be used for graphs such as 1/x, where the limit as x->0 will be different depending on the side you approach from.
