Yes. The only sciences which I think suffer any sort of suppression are some of the soft sciences, especially economics and sociology. The reason for that is nothing else really threatens the status quo. The discovery of a new type of muon doesn't mean much societally. But when something comes up that goes against the platitudes of the ruling class, well then stuff gets forcefully shoved under the rug.
