I was a freelance writer for 3 years after finishing grad school earning between $3k and $6k CAD per month working between 30-40 hour weeks. Now I'm a full-time in-house writer and research for a marketing company in Toronto grossing $63k per year plus bonuses at 25. It's soulless marketing, but I utilize my writing and research skills, work 20-35 hour weeks, and work from wherever I want (currently living in Paris, France, trapped here since the pandemic).

Not sure why people aspire to fortune. Now that I've secured a modest $63k remote gig with health insurance, I can't imagine wanting more. I can afford everything I need. I want for nothing. The only downside, if you can call it that, is writing/screen burnout. Hard to find the will to write fiction generatively when you're writing for work all day. I would, however, advise remote work positions. Very comfy, very lit.

I don't know, not really feeling it. A lot of unnecessary words tossed in. Clutters the page. Clogs the sentences. Stifles the image. I'd say cut, cut, cut. That's just my style, though.

I like your poem. Nothing to say about it, because I never learned how to read or critique poetry. But I like it a lot.

Thanks man. I guess this is the kind of reassurance we all come here for. Yeah, there are stories aplenty. That's the whole point really. Use pointlessly cycling across the country and, in revealing the stories, the ride becomes subtlety less pointless. Like Zen and the Art but with a Millennial/Gen Z flare, possibly. I wanted to ham up the choppiness in the opening section and then gradually, as the novel progresses, elongate sentences and adopt a more conventional style to reflect the changing of my internal thought processes from neurotic, cooped-up white collar kid to hardened, socialized, empathetic young man - you know, classic coming of age stuff. But I wanted that gear switch symbolized in the prose itself.

Better than expected. I especially liked the line about the fly crawling out of her mouth and flying away. It's a clear, visceral image. The last paragraph seems a bit too on the nose. I'd suggest leaving some things out. That internal stuff about how these were his first tears of joy and how he's on a mission to end the world's pain seems a bit trite. Maybe boil that paragraph down to a single line exposing how his mind's been changed.

Ah, yeah, missed that. Makes more sense now. Yeah, I like it.

Not a poetry guy but I guess this is comfy. Not sure what the reference to the wristband is about. Based on the preceding lines you'd think you're referring to a wristband on your fingers.

For me, they both elicit a dull, almost aching sense of uncertainty and apprehension that feels like a strong internal buzz or hum. You're right though, I'll chop out the doctor's office reference. Need to be more universal.

Where are you printing these. Toronto, by chance? I notice you're charging in CAD.

Also, just submitted some old stuff. Hope you enjoy.

Pic related.

Is this decent, or am I a complete simp?

Maybe. I tried to demonstrate the inconsequentiality of the blockade. Contrasting the special moments of appreciation that the two share for each other in complete disregard for the threat to their safety and that of everyone else's outside. The description of the militia is meant to seem plain and bleak.

I have a 1,100 word piece posted above. It's a three part piece. Quick read.

Good piece here.

>but the clouds of alcoholic afterburn were still in his brain

"In his brain" is jarring and disruptive here. We know where the sensation of a hangover is felt. Excise this bit or replace it with creative writing, not an anatomical description.

I also would've preferred you weren't so jaded. Escape rooms aren't the lamest thing in the world. Some are pretty fun. Gets tiring and kind of pathetic hearing people complain about popular, pro-social things just because they're both.

Thanks, man. Been here a while. Posted a lot of garbage along the way.

Would you mind clarifying what you mean by "music"?
