some post about jack ryan on a containment board is what inspired this thread, actually. thanks. i remember reading something about mlitary service members being surprised to learn that tom clancy didn't serve, considering how insightful his writing was about military service. maybe i'm misremembering.

he read ender's game, but i don't think that was a very good depiction of contemporary military service. there's no need for it to be fiction, but when i wrote the original post i was thinking of something narrative-driven that would be engaging and informative. i haven't asked for anything to be hidden from anybody.
