Before I can get to the intended subject matter I have to give a bit of background as to the character whom I will be relating to you. I must also stress that there is nothing to take badly here, and to bear patience with me and perhaps even a little suspension of your morals, for I will mean nothing harmful by what I'm about to say. Nobody has to have their feelings hurt by this, and I protest that what I have to sayis not offensive even from the most sensitive point of view. It isn't satire, is what I'm saying. The character I have to write about was born in July of 1997 in Connecticut. She was born a male but knew from the start her true gender. As early as elementary school she continuously conceived of herself as a female and by middle school had grown out long hair and wore increasingly androgynous clothing

I have a clean conscience. The shame and fear of reading is something that must be stamped out, and the imperfections purged

Hello I am the original polling anon. I was not involved at all in the poll for this year and I'm going to run another poll later this year. I will run it sometime around November/December with similar methodology to what I did the year before because I'll be occupied with a trip until then. I'm pretty disappointed in the debacle that's gone on. I don't really see a need for this poll and really we should just wait. Why make a poll for the whole year when it's not even half over? But whatever.

if you don't believe me, i have the original document from the 2016 poll where I'll put my tripcode in the F2 cell of the counted votes spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_6-b92dCuQKzH4Va2mKI3fy22Du0l3PxkybyPLqEX88/edit#gid=1145136440

Finally I made some methodology errors last year and some mistakes overall as were pointed out in the various threads. I've learned my lessons and the poll this year when I run it will turn out well. Hopefully I can get together with this OP to avoid confusion for the final infographic this year.

Sincerely, the Polling Anon

I don't have any problem with this poll but I think it's best to run the poll during th end of the year to measure how /lit/ changes from year rather than every six months. But whatever.

Hello /lit/! It's me, the polling anon, back at you again with the results of the poll.

I closed voting 1 week ago and since have been spending my time counting the votes and constructing the graphic. I had to get some help from my friend, who will remain nameless, but to whom I owe endless thanks and gratitude.

In the first couple days of polling, I accidentally left the poll in such a state that it was possible to vote multiple times. Accordingly, I was able to go through and, by hand, compare votes that appeared to be made arbitrarily close to one another, or had suspicious parallels in style and content. Thus, I have conflated the votes that seemed too suspicious to be true. I've spent a lot of hours on this, and I can confidently say that next to no legitimate votes were affected and illicit votes were reduced to a negligible minimum.

I've also received a number of fake titles and authors, some of which were amusing. I saw a Gregory Berrycone or two, a number of plays on Thomas Pynchon's name, and youtubers. While I had to discount these votes, I have to say they brought a smile to my face as I was laboring over this for you guys.

Anyways, this is the last of me you'll be seeing for a while, but sometime next year we can conduct another poll...

Anyways, signing off,
The Polling Anon

P.S. How many out of 100 have you read?

Hello /lit/ . It's me, the polling anon!

The poll is going well, I have 433 responses and am just about ready to wrap it up. This is your last chance to vote, if you haven't.

Just look at the flowers, /lit, and think of the rabbits.

Hello /lit/! It's me, the polling anon. Sorry for the sudden start and stop the other week, the last thread got me all stressed. I hope you got it all out of your system and we can now proceed in peace. i'm probably not going to be responding to posts in this thread because I don't wanna get mixed up with all this shit. So if someone takes my name, it's not me.

Meanwhile, take the poll if you haven't. If you try to vote again it just overwrites your last vote.

Pictured is Don Delillo. I hope he comes in here and votes, i like him a lot. You'd never know.

Current Vote total:
1. Ulysses
2. Infinite Jest
3. Lolita
4. The Bible
5. Brothers karamazov
6. The Stranger
7. Blood Meridian
8. Crime and Punishment
9. Shakespeare
10. Moby Dick

Hello /lit/. It's me, the polling anon from 2016. I'm back to host another poll of your top 100 books, so we can measure the progress of /lit/'s taste and get a chart to help beginners find new books.

If you're wondering why I'm doing this again so early, it's because /lit/ has the ugly tendency to succumb to memes (when I did the last poll, Alan Moore's Jerusalem was "in" and made the top 35 I think, which wouldn't have happened had we done it in a meme-free time). For another example, Bob Dylan won the nobel prize and dominated /lit/'s collective attention for a month or so. If I'd made the poll then we surely would've lost a lot of time to having to delete the "Blonde and Blonde" and "like a rolling stone" entries. not to hate on Dylan who I like, but it would've delayed progress. There don't seem to be any memes currently other than the longrunning ones, but they shouldn't affect the polling more than we can expect.

This time, I'm allowing 3 entries. The first gets 5 points (ie, 5 votes), the second gets 2, and the last gets only 1. That way you can give more weight to the books you like most, and we can get a more concise list that's easy to count and also factors in just how much ppl like certain books.

I've missed you /lit/. Also, enjoy Joyce playing the guitar.
