Bust out a hundred dollar bill and light a cig with it. Ash in a glass and ask them who the fuck they’re talking to. If they threaten to call the police, throw money on the floor and tell them they can pick it up together. Remind them that you could pay off their minimum wage and still bath in champagne. Their wives couldn’t refuse to suck your dick for the money you could offer. Leave and never come back. Shoulder check them if you pass by them on the street. Otherwise treat them as dead.

Honestly, probably not much more on books than I do now. I still have no reason to own them when i can check them out at the library. I would certainly be more willing to pay the interlibrary loan fee.
I like to think I would be pretty philanthropic if I was really wealthy so since we're on /lit/ I would probably donate to the local library. Do libraries accept money donations?

It looks idiotic worn sideways like that. Maybe it's just the smug face it accompanies. I don't know what world you live in where those are just regular oxfords. They look weirdly long and bulbous on the ends. Like giant slugs that have been beat up.

He's speaking against Affirmative Action, but the argument on the other side of the field would be that society has put some people at a disadvantage. They would say that Affirmative Action is enabling everyone to play by the same rules.

You're right that it's a great book, but you seem to have misread the "characters". Not once do you get a character description or statement from that character which escapes Humbertization.

>>3242076

Humbert is not an unreliable narrator. That implies some inkling of reliability or a scale reliability existent in the text, which there is not.

>>3242123

The joke's on you if you are trying to read the book through a psychologically descriptive lens.

One more thing, people:

WHERE ARE YOUR SPOILER TAGS?

Yes, I would say this is a philosophic statement. That:

>The speaker proposes there is no such thing as once-and-for-all, all-inclusive knowledge

Then, I think he means either

>"intellectuals" who exalt "ultimate" or absolute or whatever truth are sullying the name of epistemology and making self-examination inaccessible to the masses

or

>"intellectuals" who exalt "ultimate" truth think that in every appearance there is some inkling of divinity, since truth somehow manifests itself in every thing

and finally

>if people would endorse this notion of "hyper-skepticism", they would be more vigilant about big institutions manipulating them.

however, a contradiction:

>that the speaker criticizes the "intellectuals" for not taking appearances at face value,
>that the masses should be skeptical of the view of those "intellectuals"
>but then the masses should not take the mass media and government messages at face-value, but see their appearance as a facade.

Yep, the c-word is harsh just by virtue of its structure and cracking consonants. KKUH-NNT! It really punches.
