I don't know why people feel the need to malign Brave New World here. Simplicity doesn't make a book shit. That said Antic Hay is my favourite one by Huxley.

1. Gallimard and Folio seem to publish the best stuff.

2. I use bookdepostory.com

3. That order sounds good seeing as it's running from a kid's book to a literary philosophical novel. The Stanger's easy enough to read. I'd also recommend The Count of Monte Cristo.

4. I dunno, probably because my professor in college recommend it to me I always use Oxford as my yardstick now. Either that or if I'm stuck I'll use Larousse's website. Both seem pretty reliable.

Most people here are going to disagree with what I have to say but them's the breaks. Find what suits you the best. Best of luck, you've made a great decision deciding to read French literature in it's original language.

Hello yet again. I'm a fluent Francophone, however my first language is English. I've read three novels in french (L'étranger, la nausée, la légion des damnéss) however I can't help but feel that I am missing something in my comprehension of the text. I'm going to try get back into reading French originals however I think I'll try reading a translation first and then the original. I'm just wondering if any other bilingual /lit/izens do this at all, or whether you have no trouble reading in your second language.

I really liked it. Just the flow of language intrigues me is all. Don't listen to the dipshits here. Most of them are just hacks who conflate their opinion with some objective framework for measuring art. Keep writing. It's the only way to get better.

Best of luck chief.

Ahh ok. Guessed as much but I've been reading a lot of Sci-fi and fantasy lately. A lot of which I would've thought as pure shit if I judged them by their covers.

Right, so I first found out about this series from here. I know it's pure pulp fiction, escapism, pleb trash, whatever the fuck you want to call it but I enjoyed it immensely. To the point of devouring the books. So I decided it deserved a thread.

So post anything you want about the series. Does anyone know when the next book is coming out by the way.

Day of the Damned. Dat ending.

I have to say I regularly despise these threads asking about purchases (I couldn't tell you why) but seeing these Penguin Classics warms my heart. After a period of dormancy lasting from 12 - 16 I got back into reading and I consumed editions like these when I could, spending pocket money (and then my wages) on editions like these out of a second-hand bookshop.

Take up boxing, stick at it, start fighting in amateur tournaments. It's a way of getting in high stress environments without getting you killed. Don't listen to any bullshit about bar fights. That's a sure way to get some permanent damage done to you. All it takes is some fucker to wrap a pool cue around your head.
