I've read Jekyll and Hyde (loved it), and some of Poe's work, but nothing of Lovecraft yet. I don't know why, but I can't get into Stephen King. I liked the first Dark Tower book, but I can't get through any thing else of his.

What else is good? Bonus points for stuff off the beaten path.

Hey /lit/, wandering /co/mmrade here. Is there a list of good horror stories compiled? If not, could I get some recommendations? I've read Frankenstein, Dracula, and some others. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. The statue wouldn't move, but the eyes would glow, Zeus's voice would seem to be coming from it, it would storm a bit, etc. Other than that, Zeus wouldn't actually show up after the rape.

I'd probably use Edith Hamilton for most of the details, though a few liberties might be taken.

What I'm excited about is making Zeus's statue in the temple as scary as possible. I originally wanted to make it a huge one, like in Disney's Hercules, but decided against it for realism.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, Protagius will have his ass handed too him most of the story. Zeus would escalate his punishments, probably start with eagles, getting other people to hunt him, and finally a huge storm to finish the job.

Hey /lit/, wannabe horrorfag here.

I'm kicking around the idea of writing a Greek mythological horror story, with Zeus as the "monster." The ancient Greeks believed that their gods were literally inhabiting the statues of themselves in the temples, which I was thinking of using.

The story would take place in ancient times and would be about a guy who's wife was raped by Zeus (for the lulz), and commits a (justified) blasphemy against him. Zeus does his godly wrath thing, only I try and make it more horror that special effects show.

It would have a feel similar to Clash of the Titans, but hopefully would be much better.
