>discussions of philosophy that take place on /lit/ should be based around specific philosophical works to which posters can refer.

General philosophy e.g. "what is the right thing to do in this situation." belong on /his/.

There's a whole website dedicated to these so we don't have to post and repost them here.

he looks worried, is he okay
what is he looking at?
is there someone not pictured threatening him and making him pose for this portrait?

what is on the page he is holding? why is that so important to be painted

reposting this just to show my solidarity with the concept,

please reply with suggestions for the next iteration of the banner and I will endeavor to incorporate them in a second draft due tomorrow AEST as I need to nap off all the broccoli I just ate for a midnight snack.

Goodnight friends, I will dream of you.

If I know ladies (and trust me i know ladies) theres nothin they love more than a timtam

rich, chocolaty goodness.

god i wish i was eating one RIGHT NOW
mmm mmm MMMM

anyone here ever bite both ends of a tim tam off and drink cold milk through?

bliss.

i would use warm milk (i love warm milk) but the chocolate melts and i get it all over my fingers

ever tried some of the more obscure timtam flavours?

i had one once that was pina colada flavour

it wasnt as good as original

my favourites are dark chocolate or double dip chocolate ones

yummo

Assuming you're new to this I would recommend getting infinite jest and reading that first. As for the other two, I recommend reading some other books by those authors first.
You should have some kind of grounding in literature before attempting the other two as well.
Read Dubliners and Portrait before Ulysses, Joyce has a style that you probably won't be used to. If you go head-first into Ulysses you will probably just give up.
With Pynchon I recommend the same, I'd say read inherent vice, and maybe watch the movie, then try TCoL49 and V. before GR.

Don't bother buying all three at once unless you are a supreme memer.

Philosophy discussion based on a particular work is allowed I think.
But I agree that there are far too many school of life tier shitposts.

Just saying that the 'top 100 of 2016...2017...2018' concept is not working as it's the same books as before just with fresh new memes added in.
People always want to vote for their favourites every year and thus vote the same way every time.
This way we would be able to see what people actually read and enjoyed in that year, at the moment its more a representation of what the people on /lit/ like in general, not what they actually liked in that year.

obviously, it would work different, but I'm imagining something like the last.fm 3x3 but for a whole boards book taste rather than an individuals music

Everyone gets one vote for the best book they read that month, then they get combined for a /lit/ top (10 or something, whatever) of may 2017
Then in January after the votes for top books of December are counted, some nerd combines all votes and makes the top 100 of 2017

Why don't we start doing mini votes every month of what the best book you read that month was?
Then we can combine them at the end of the year for an actual representation of the highest voted books of that year.
I know someone here has the timtams to make that happen.
