Hello everyone.

I wanna get into philosophy so I decided to read a good Introduction to Philosophy book.

While reading it, I'll note the ones who interests me most and the ones who I find most ridicilous then I will dig them.

Is it a good way ?

Sanctuary is good, too and very easy to read except most of his works.

Thomas Bernhard's novel Correction is about him. You should read it if you are interested in Witti.

I'm halfway through pic related but it is like a torture. Pretentious story with a lot of shallow satire. Also, all characters are unlikable.

Should I continue reading it ? Does it get any better ? It literally slows down my reading schedule. I can't fucking finish it and can't move on to other novels I have in my shelf.

It is like a shitty and uninteresting version of a Ballard book.

>It kind of fits with this, which is also a really good point.

The part four is the best example of this, imho. Murder after murder.. All written in technical details and after a while you even don't care about them. You become just like the citizens of Santa Teresa who see these murders as another one biting the dust, nothing more.

By the way, who is the most tragic character in your opinion ?

I'd go with Juan Martinez. He can't even get to know the details about the woman she loves, he can't even cry himself to death against the violence of the man-kind, his own people. He always tries to solve the murders but the system he's in can't allow him to move free. He is a lost cause.

>i thought the part about Liz and Morini becoming lovers was contrived and unsatisfying. i couldn't buy into it. you?

No. Out of the four characters, only Pelletier's end - reading Archimboldi books while retreating into your own thoughts - seemed satisfactory to me. I couldn't buy into the rest.

By the way Roberto Bolano was known to be disrespectful to the bourgeois literary life and he once called his wife and children " my only country ".

So may it be possible that Bolano wrote the sex triangle between them for showing a kind of degeneracy of the 20th century ?

>parts 1 and 5 could also be a good novel of its own.

Agree although I didn't enjoy the first part as the others.

I still can't get what it was about ?

Showing the decadence of the academic world or setting a basis for Archimboldi ?

What do you think about the end of the first part where Liz and Morini became lovers ?

Part 2 is great. Could be a story of own.

Part 3 is meeh. Setting the tone for the chaos and evil in 4th part.

Part 4 is simply amazing. So cinematic and in my opinion contains the most interesting characters like Juan de Dios Martinez, Klaus Haas and Lalo Curra.

Part 5 is the life-story of Archimboldi, the shadowy author in the first part.

Post your 5 favorite characters.

No particular order:

Lalo Curra
Klaus Haas
Archimboldi
Juan de Dios Martinez ( the most tragic one I guess )
Amalfitano

Hello everyone.

Just finished 2666 by Roberto Bolano. It was a mind-blowing reading experience. Especially the the second, the fourth and the last parts.

One think I want to ask you is what is the purpose of the first parst, the one about translators ?

Was it written for creating a base for Archimboldi's existence in the novel or did Bolano use it purposely for showing the degeneration of 20th century literature ( corrupt love triangle, bourgeois lifestyle of the translators) ---- Also, don't forget that Bolano was a very devoted family man and he was hostile against the famous and rich authors ----

Let's talk about it.
