Rest in peace, kind sir.

I hope Eoin Coifer or whatever didn't make you roll over too much in your grave.

There's a race in Old Man's War where all aliens believe they've been created by another and there's several religious overtones connecting to it. They still exist.

The galactic war is more about a land grab than anything else, but if I had to guess it would be Old Man's War.

Why didn't Aragorn just call The Black Company for assistance before Soulcatcher employed them for the Lady?

Oh man, Dresden is awesome as fuck.

That structuring in the last book, man.

Never even saw that coming and sat there when Molly turned.

"HOLY SHIT, NO WAY!"

Fantastic.

I really wish that Harry would sit down with his kid though.

Oh look, it's the same guy that makes the Name of the Wind every few days to throw off suspicions that he's, in fact, Rothfuss.

Fuck you, Rothfuss. You've made me hate the fact you're from my state.

The best novel in the series is Alloy of Law because of how short it is.

Sanderson suffers as a writer by writing extended segments of NOTHING AT ALL FUCKING HAPPENING.

Mistborn had more than a book and a half of this in the Mistborn series. Alloy of Law, however, is like.. 200 pages and gets everything covered in that amount of time.

I tend to prefer books like that in particular because they're clear, concise and fucking awesome. Alloy of Law was like a Mistborn Dresden series.

Don't aim for the horror element or it's going to be shit because you're trying to hard to find that.

Look at what scares you. What's unsettling to you and what could turn into genuine fear in such an unsettling scenario?

Fear is like.. 1/3 environment, 1/3 psychological setup and 1/3 real, scary moments.

You need the scene before you throw in the insane serial killer or whatever floats your boat.

Thrawn Trilogy is solid gold.

Darth Bane novels are pretty great too, at least the first one. I always appreciate Star Wars novels more when they appeal to the training aspect of character. Going through the Sith schools or the Jedi academy. It's fun. To me at least.

Otherwise, the NJO books are pretty solid. That whole Yuuhzan Vong conflict. I'm not so sure about the Dark Caedus arc and everything after but they're pretty solid.

Oh and the novelization of Episode 3 was about 500 times better than the movie itself.

I read about 22 this year when I started keeping track for a competition against my friend in April.

Before that, I read the Dresden Files.

Not counting novellas, text books, poetry, magazines, re-reads, etc.

I'd round it at about 30-35

He always looked so smug, even after I had beaten him. Despite his legs being broken, he sat calmly and looked rather collected except for that sly grin. He knew that it would just continue back and forth like this for all time. The villain who kills the people and the hero who foils him. He drummed his fingers, waiting for me to turn him over to the police.

I opted for a different strategy, evident by the detective's discovery of the body minutes later.

I use these but only in forest green. For some reason the color draws me more and makes me want to carry it with me and write in it.

I don't take extensive notes from books like you do, as my dome works well enough for memorizing concepts and things I want to know but ideas, drawings and personal philosophy.

Yes. My taste is shit because I disagree with you. Then again over the last few months that you've continuously made this thread I've always disagreed.

The fact is, there's nothing special about this book and it wouldn't make a great screen play because of the facts I stated. No one wants to read about a character who's just naturally good at everything and doesn't face his end-game goal or any side goals until the 3rd book which will most definitely fail us all in our expectations.

And it wouldn't make a film because it can't stand up without Kvothe standing there. The world and all its people are boring, save for Kvothe. I hate to be THAT GUY but Kvothe is a Gary Stu and I can't help but hate him.

It's an easy read and it misses its mark if it's going for a mass appeal. And he should build a name by actually putting out a good book with a fantastic world and deep characters that don't rely upon the cornerstone that is Kvothe. I won't take it for what it is when it's garbage.

Suck my opinion, son.
