A “right” is a moral principle defining and sanctioning a man’s freedom of action in a social context. The concept of a “right” pertains only to action—specifically, to freedom of action.

It is especially in discussions of ethics that one must check one’s premises (or remember them), and more: one must learn to check the premises of one’s adversaries.
For instance, Objectivists will often hear a question such as: “What will be done about the poor or the handicapped in a free society?”

So has anybody read Tao Lin's new novel yet?

I just sat on a floor that wasn’t room temperature and looked at grass that was definitely green and a sky that was definitely blue and listened to birds that chirruped and sheep that went “baa” and I feel somewhat certain that I have just experienced the most “cognitively happy” feelings that I have felt in my entire life. I was outside the house that is my university accommodation very early in the morning after staying up all night and I was alone and nobody was there and I smoked alone for the first time. I smoked the first cigarette that I bought with my own money alone and I felt “cognitively happy” alone. I was a little “ironically worried” because I was alone and there was a lot of smoke and nobody would tell me if I caught fire so if I caught fire I would realise very late and roll on the definitely green grass until I was definitely a careless burnt out husk. Next to me there was a milkshake that I am drinking now. Inside there was a pie that I bought. I felt “depressed” or “fucked” or something but definitely “cognitively happy.” Like my body was pleased with me and my brain was sort of like the thing you are reading except euphoric and “fucked” in a way too simultaneous to express in coherent language. I just went and collected the pie I bought from the kitchen and now I am eating it except I am not eating it because I am typing. Ashley has an exam today and I promised to be quiet so I will now eat it in impeccable silence. 08:46AM; I just ate a steak and kidney pie in impeccable silence. I am like a god of self control, I am typing this to demonstrate that. I am typing this because it is different to throwing things round and causing destruction like those people in films who everybody thinks is a “wacky maverick.” I think those people are “assholes.” I identify with them in the intended way. I feel “Fucked.”
