There's a bit of a difference between the script for a play and a screenplay.
A screenplay will ultimately have a single and definitive interpretation (the film).
A play on the other hand is meant to be performed many times. Because of this, the production of a play is not a definitive interpretation, but one of many interpretations by each production's director, actors, etc..
One must interpret and engage with the actual text of Shakespeare in order to direct one of his plays, and an audience must understand the same text in order to understand the director's intentions.
None of this exists (thankfully) within the world of cinema, because a screenplay is simply a guide to what the movie will become.
In short: A script is the foundation for a play while a screenplay is a rough draft for a film.
