You should expect to burn it in disgust.

Sound advice. Thanks a lot. I don't think I will hold out for the Kindle 4, as my main motivation for getting one is an upcoming holiday. I'm sure the current one will do everything I need it to.

Thanks a lot. I think that has sealed the deal. I see the wi-fi one is on Amazon for about one hundred pounds. Is it worth spending the extra on the 3G?

A question for the Kindle owners, is there anything stopping me from reformatting PDF's into EPUB's and uploading them onto the device?

I have literally hundreds of books in PDF format that I want to read, so if there will be transfer issues, I would like to know.

Your writing a book about a period of history you don't know inside out?

Interdasting. If you look at Classical period authors at the moment (Holland, Sidebottom) most of them are professors in Ancient History/Classical Studies in the top five universities in the world...

Just sayin.

Quitter! You would read the book first though right?!

Ha, nope.

You aren't getting off this island mate. You can sustain yourself indefinitely, but the only way out is death, intentional or otherwise.

Bam. That's what I would take I think. I can get lost in that book.

Although, when I was contemplating this earlier (this is under my coffee table btw) I couldn't decide between the Fisk or the Borges.

Fair point. But lets assume that there will be no necessity for survival application.

This book will become your bible, god, only friend, etc.

Ha, good choices. I suppose after a few years the only thing that wouldn't drive you mad would be reference stuff.

Morning Gents,

If you had to pick one book from this photo for the 'desert island' scenario, which would it be?

Seconded.

Homeric texts = God Tier.

Yeah a bit. But I think the whole approach of that season was to avoid it being too character driven/oriented as opposed to Band of Brothers.

Seconded.

And god-fucking-damn the series was fantastic. Just finished re-watching it actually...

Bill Bryson's pseudo-biography might help put some context to the writer(s) and help you relate to the material a bit more. It pretty short too, a 2-3 day read, but a lot of insight.

I think in this instance we could assume that they are analogous.

Polybius, Appian, Herodotus, Xeonphon, Pliny, Plutarch, Cicero, Homer, Cervantes(?), Borges.
