A good mate is one who can provide for the needs of their partner, not necessarily the alpha meat-head you describe.

"survival skills" in this day and age, have more to do with functioning effectively in society, compared to fighting and long distance running.

what is?

in a sense, yeah. there is a factor of selection in place, in regards to what is published, and how much its distributed. there is even a kind of darwinism that exists in culture, in terms to what is remembered, and its importance... something which is decided the generation after, and every generation after that.

specific to poetry, its not hard for me to imagine poetry continuing to have its niche in our culture, and its hard for me to imagine it ever losing that niche completely. its just that between television, politics, and every other form of pop media; I can't ever imagine poetry ever being anything but niche.

film is a dense subject, but not as dense as lit. I suggest you watch what you like, and develop an honest interest in film outside of what you typically get to see. these sorts of lists are kind of disingenuous, in that people are trying to hash out objectively what is the best ever, and its a complete trap. genres, obviously, influence one another like movements. directors often speak with the same voice, their own, throughout their careers. also their is always the influence of the industry, and sometimes the creative struggle between the artists, and that industry.

when we get around to discussing the best genre films, specific to the genres that I like, I'll say more.

just find out what you like, and watch the fuck out of it.

fine, I'll spell it out. Poetry can define itself. So its not as potent a medium in our society as it once was?

big deal, the worthless shit will burn out, and we'll remember the things that remain.

its pretty much a worthless question, the things that can prove themselves will. some will be lost. such is the way of things.

who derped now? you stupid fucker.

fair enough, maybe that has something to do with why I dont drink them so much anymore, they're too god-damn filling.

btw, you should try either substituting Kahlua for Frangelico, or else doing 1/2 portions of each, sometime. Its a damn tasty variant.

1. actually, I have re-read a number of books, I enjoy the second reading more than the first a lot of times.
2. not all of my friends bother with the library, while yes, I agree it would probably be a lot easier.
3. No, its not profitable, but I've been poor sometimes.

Also, fuck you. I was just giving an honest answer. I'm not a hoarder, but I like owning books. That's my choice, you want to tell me why that's objectively wrong, I'll just ignore you.

plenty of discussion of actual content in this thread, discussion of context as well, but still.

also, yeah there's some gay sex in his books, but so far I don't think I'd say its even close to 1/3'rd of the content. I haven't read Queer yet, maybe that book skews the average.

Oh, and for censored by his parents kid, either move out... or wait until you can move out. Life goes on. Either that, or sneak out to the library, and read whatever the fuck you want. I feel some pity for you.

Naturally, there is a certain amount of stratification of interests that exists. In theory, /b/ would be the catch-all median point between every board here on 4chan, or I suppose now /soc/ might be that as well.

That being said, you'll have just as hard a time here on /lit/, the social shit flies, with quite a bit of flak, but none-the-less it does fly, mostly because of the rampant trip-faggotry here. Still, most of the time, there is a usually concerted effort to keep things topical here, even if the majority of it is trolls (Ayn Rand, Catcher in the Rye), or tripfag circle-jerks (which are sometimes rampant, and sometimes occasional).

Anyway, you should go back to /soc/, or else just make a /lit/ related topic.
