I'm reading this now as well! Actually I'm almost done with it. It's something else.

I'm not confident in my writing abilities, but I'll post anyway. I don't the last story I wrote nearby, but I have the previous one. And I posted it on /lit/ and got somewhat positive results, so it's probably way better anyways.

If the order of the words in the title is all you have, that's not the best deterrent from reading it.

>>3127603
Thank you. I guess I'll see which I come across first. I'm really put off by the Garnett translation because of the censorship and shit, so I'm kinda leaning towards Avsey. But I'm not going to rule out P&V. Whichever I find the better deal for, I guess.

How so? And does it have footnotes? If it's not as faithful as the P&V translation, I would want footnotes at least.

My point exactly. I think I'll donate my copy to Goodwill or something and pick up another.

>She left out parts
>censored bits
That's really all I need to hear. I'm going to look into the Peavear/ Voloohnsky translation. I didn't know if had footnotes, and that appeals to me very much.

This is the first time I've heard this.

I know that lots of people (including writers that I respect) read this because it was the first English translation (if I'm correct). But I know some writers, especially Nabokov, hated it.

Can someone else weigh in on this? Perhaps someone who's read this translation and at least one other?

I got sick of my buddy sucking this book's dick, so when I saw a copy for 50 cents, I bought it.

I got home and checked it online and found that my copy (same one in pic), is the Constance Garnett translation that is not very widely regarded.

Should I just shut the fuck up and read the book, or seek out a different translation?

My buddy told me to read it for the themes, then pick up a different translation and read that for the prose. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to read the book twice. I don't have much free time to read in the fist place, so reading it once will be a challenge.

Wow. Still alive.

Come on, /lit/. Is anyone a fan of him? Or hate him? Anything.

>> No.2585324 [View]

bump.

Surely someone here has read some Lansdale.

I'm going to agree with this. I think OP would enjoy Vonnegut.

I'm currently reading Savage Season. I found it and Sunset And Stardust at a thrift store.

I'm really liking these characters and expect to eventually read more of the Hap and Leonard novels. I've read a lot of his short stories before. I've enjoyed those as well.

What does /lit/ think of him? What books would you recommend I continue with (other than Sunset and Sawdust since I already own it).

Thank you, kind anon.

I've seriously been searching for this damn book for fucking ages. If I can only find that book, it was worth it.

Hmmm. First search?

Well, I've been looking for a copy of "Sea Otters Gambolling In The Wild, Wild Surf" by John Bennett. Can't find an electronic copy of that book to save my life. I even have a post on /r/ at this very moment.

I won't cry if I don't get the invite though. May the 'best' taste in literature win, >>2271198

Also, I don't smoke weed, but their email address makes me chuckle a little.

Gotta go eat some steak. If this is still alive later, I'll reply more.

Thanks again, people.

Fuck. I was praying for this. Thank you so much.

Really, the story was an assignment that I gave myself (and my friend and girlfriend) that involved writing a story in a short frame of time. I'm not making excuses. It's not perfect and I know that. And thanks to you, I know how to expand it and make it better.

As for the N.B.T.C., I didn't want to go too much into detail about him. But I like the idea about going into more detail about Emma and possibly her dad. But you're right. Her dad really is basically just there to fuck her day up. It's kind of emotionally manipulative, but that's what I was going for. This was kind of a throwaway story, but I think I'll take your (and anybody's else's) criticism and expand and improve it. Then add more stories. Maybe if they're good enough release it as a chapbook or something. That would do a lot for my self-esteem.

I'll definitely go into more detail about Emma and her dad. Thank you again.

That took longer than I expected. However, being as this was /lit/, I was expecting the negative criticism to be more intelligent than that.

I'm a little worried about you. I love you, anon. But your enthusiasm to see a small child abused so harshly makes me think that you intend to masturbate to the story I've written.

If you wanna write some Nigger Bike Thief Champion fan-fiction where Emma is beaten harshly and molested or whatever you're into, you're welcome to do so. Just don't put my name on it.
