WHAT DO YOU THINK SARCOPLASMIC HYPERTROPHY IS?

>this is some creative broscience though

Actually it's science science.

>Gymnasts look plenty strong to me.

They are decently strong. They are also typically very short. As far as lean mass:size ratio, they tend to look "big" in proportion. Pic related.

>>4284311
Actually there was nothing false about what I said. Look up the difference between "Myofibrillar hypertrophy" and "Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy" and it will explain to you why you can increase cellular size without much strength gain, but you cannot substantially gain strength without increasing muscular size and quantity.

>pretty sure it makes your core look better

It can make your everything "look" better, because the expended energy in cardio can easily create a caloric deficit, which in turn causes the loss of bodyfat, which is hoe muscles gain definition. You can be very weak, but with low bodyfat you will look "cut" or "ripped" as long as you have some muscle underneath the fat that you've lost.

>AEROBIC EXERCISE ONLY STRENGTHENS MUSCLES, IT DOES NOT DEVELOP THEM.

Actually, it doesn't strengthen them either.

It can increase their endurance, but running will not actually make your legs "stronger". I.e. you wont increase how much weight you can squat by running.

Also, while size !=strength, strength = size. You can't get stronger without getting bigger, but you can get bigger without getting very strong.

Hop over to /fit/ and read the sticky if you're interested in learning more about it.

I'm a little under halfway through this book as we speak. So far it's hard to put down. I don't know why /lit/ would hate it as you say but then again I don't come to /lit/ all that often.

>The tetralogy chronicles the journey and ascent to power of Severian, a disgraced journeyman torturer who becomes Autarch, the one ruler of the free world. It is a first-person narrative, ostensibly translated by Wolfe into contemporary English, set in the distant future when the Sun has dimmed and Earth is cooler (a "Dying Earth" story).

Thoroughly intrigued. Thanks a lot!

I haven't been able to read anything in the Sci-Fi genre that even comes close to the Dune series.

I read Foundation by Asimov very recently because I was told it's the best of the best. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, I still don't think it's on Dune's level.

Any suggestions? I think by reading Herbert's works I broke my Sci-Fi bone.

My favorite is Post Office, but I started with Factotum.

Factotum got me hooked, so I guess that'd be a good place to start.

IIRC, "50 Shades" began as a faggy, live-journal-esque, goth-chick's-wet-dreamTwilight fanfic, and the dumb broad changed the names and added some anal and raked in the millions.

>Naked Lunch

I read it because I really enjoyed "Junkie" and was reading a lot of beat work. It had enough acclaim that I figured I'd give it a shot to see what all the hubbub was about, and I figured that since I liked Burroughs' other work, it couldn't be bad.

Good lord was I wrong. What a ridiculous waste of time. It was like reading a paper written by a kid in the 4th grade who was just stringing profanities and explicit descriptions together in a childlike attempt to be controversial.
