Do we have discussion of literature?

>> No.3898987 [View]

Just what are you implying?

>> No.3898517 [View]

No. Nihilism, or at least some derivative, is the only logical conclusion to be derived from the post-industrial world, though.

>> No.3898102 [View]

No. It's pretty damn good. Read it.

That's nice.
Take it to /v/ or /r9k/ and discuss books, please. /lit/ is actually about its subject matter, and it should stay that way.

There's been a surge of off-topic discussion here lately, even video game threads. Part of me wants to blame it on summer.

Poe.

They can. Who says that they cannot? Does the fact that this is a literature board somehow imply that we hate all other artforms? Nevertheless, this is a literature board, where we discuss literature, not film, video games or chess. I wish people would get this through their heads.

Keep reading regularly, and it shall come naturally. Until it does, however, read relatively simple books, such as those by Murakami and Vonnegut. Don't just read, either - spend some real time afterwards contemplating what you've just read. Keep it up, and it will come naturally in due time. Nobody can be good at anything right away.

In that case, take up Golf and be a really stereotypical lawyer.
Just kidding. You still just have to answer the question for yourself.

>> No.3896639 [View]

Read, take up a sport or a hobby, et cetera.
You're asking us what you should do with your time, more or less. That's a ridiculously huge question. You have to answer it for yourself or you'll regret it later.

I was always a strong reader, but I was rather indifferent until I discovered Kafka at 13. After that, nothing could get between me and a book. He's still one of my favorite writers, alongside Dostoevsky, Melville and Joyce.

Stop embarrassing yourself and go back to /pol/, where your lovely groupthink will be undisturbed.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Pathologic did everything that The Last of Us did much, much better. As for mediums impersonating others, I was referring to Heavy Rain.

Both are quite frankly terrible as games. Mediums imitating other mediums simply cannot turn out well.

I agree with your point about "why not do both," but what is artistically significant about either of those games? Tell me - I haven't played them.

The tragic thing is that they have yet to live up to one per cent of that potential.

I feel that this signals the beginning of /lit/'s downfall.
Ah, well. It was fun while it lasted.
By the way, OP, this is a far better book than Fight Club.

There is a million dollar reward waiting for anyone who creates an advanced Go program, by the way.

I have just added Metal Gear Solid 2 and Planescape: Torment to the list.

I never put down Vice City. I put down III. While I do sometimes feel that San Andreas is a better game, having lived in both New York and California, I feel that III nailed the concept much more, partially due to its greater degree of abstraction. While it was smaller, every block was unique and had its own personality. The atmosphere was easily the best in the series - it felt like being trapped in a political cartoon. Those are my thoughts, at least.

I feel that The Castle is about being a traveler and a stranger in a foreign land where one is not necessarily welcome. The Trial and The Castle are both stories about the painful situations we, as humans, throw ourselves into.
That is my current interpretation. It will, of course, change within about a month.

"I could WRITE an essay."
Good lord, I am a fool.

>> No.3895708 [View]

Absolutely. The Castle is such a nuanced book that I could an essay three times its length and still leave many important qualities out.
