Like all media, they have gems and have shame titles, but they're great and enjoyable. They got me into reading, so I owe them a lot. They're a great way to spend the time if you don't have the time or place to read a large book and a great way to socialize.

If by vampire books you mean Twilight, give her some early Anne Rice, specifically th first four Vampire Chronicles, then you can give her some epoc romance, like Phillipa Gregory, then patiently, you'll be turning her to Oscar Wilde, and then you'll be able to turn her to read something worthwhile.

Just try to lure her into something better by finding what she likes and creating a path into Dracula and real novels.

I agree with your statement. Keyword: Most.

What book would you get for an 18 year old female?

I'm just saying it can help by being very practical, time and energy saving, but I didn't say at all books are useless.

We can use BOTH, I was just pointing out some advantages when it comes to having an ereader.

It's all about using your tools as much and as better as possible. Books and ereader can liev in peace.

It's called being environmentally friendly, OP.

Think about college and university students, as well as teachers, in need of buying expensive and gigantic textbooks when the only thing they have to carry is a pocket sized e-reader with all the information they need.

Being able to carry a lot of information in one simple, specifically designed gadget will help when it comes to transfering information from one place to another.

Plus, it helps not being too much of a burden when traveling, since you can not take all your library with you or takes up a lot of space.

Remember only a small part of books are actually recycled and reading has become such an expensive luxury nowadays with the little time average people have and the high prices in most countries, specially when it comes to translated editions.

Well, I guess you have a point there. But thena gain, you have summaries and reviews.

I guess it all comes down to what >>774489 said about reading something that already interests you.

Listening to music doesn't take as long as reading abook. You can also listen to music AND do something else. That's why it doesn't look at time consuming or difficult as reading.

I'm not defending capitalism, but living in a society where no sense of achievement (and I mean personal, not economical) means you're willing to let go of the little possibilities you have of actually being yourself in exchange of comfort.

When that happens, you have no interest in anything else. Just like how rich kids have had everything since birth and then don't realize the value of everything important, and I'm not talking about materialism.

Literature? Gone. Quality Music? Gone. Morals? We already live in comfort. Education? Why? We already have everything else. The US maybe that already, but look at Europe and Asia? Do you see them going back?

Gotta go now.

Religion. First Catholicism. Now it's worse because of the sudden boom of Evangelic churches rising up in every direction. It's even worse now, with all the mentality that if it's not God-related, it's the devil. My mother is proof of this. She doesn't even listen to decent pop music because "every voice that's not singing to God, is singing to the Devil".
