Pretty much these OP.

The best fantasy series I have read. My favourite fantasy books. I have read all of them two times and the first 5 three times.

Yes, sometimes the plot threads are slow.
Yes, sometimes the side plots are irrelevant or uninteresting.
Yes, sometimes scenes are dragged out for much longer than needed.
Yes, there are cliches.
Yes, the female protagonists are annoying most of the time.

BUT

The books are NEVER boring. They keep you constantly engaged. Constantly interested and worrying. I actually care about the characters. They are not some paper cut outs pushing the plot forward. They feel like real people. They are real people.

The battles are unrivaled. Wait till you reach Dumai's Wells. I have re-read that one a hundred times.

The bad guys are actually interesting and very well done. You will yearn for more Forsaken chapters, trust me on this. Same with Asha'man.

The creatures are unique, so no elves and dwarves. Myrddraal are God Tier enemies.

I particularly like the different countries and cultures portrayed by the author. The geopolitics as well.

Sanderson does a competent job finishing the series. It feels kind of hollow, missing Jordan's spirit in the sentences, but overall it is satisfying. The only complaint I have is that he messed up Matt big time. The character went from most likable and a fighter to a piece of shit whiner.

The most boring and uninteresting of the books in the series, so far. Worth the read, but don't expect Clash or Storm level of awesomeness.

Moby-Dick IMHO. Never liked Dracula.

I rarely find jokes or situations in books THAT funny. I remember laughing at the Hitchhiker's Guide a lot, though. It got a point where family members thought there was something wrong with me.

Currently:

The Conventions of War by Walter Jon Williams, third novel in Dread Empire's Fall series.
It's a very light read, a military space opera/planetary romance.
On the plus side, it tries to depict realistic Newtonian physics in the space battles.
A huge minus is the other plot line, centered around an insurgency movement on an occupied planet.

Next:

I'll probably finish the The Galactic Center Saga by Gregory Benford. I am two books in, but got bored and stopped for some time. One of the last big classics that I haven't read and I have been putting it off for years.

After that Incandescence by Greg Egan. That has been on my to-read list since it came out in 2008.

Sony PRS-T1

6+ months and I still enjoy as much the first day I got it.

Yes, I have tried all the others.
Yes, it is the best one of the bunch.
No, it has no issues (so far).

>but Eko you can't read, I asked about nook vs. kindle

Kindle for reading, Nook if you want to mess with the device and install stuff on it (that you would never use).

>I actually think that the last page will be " Littlefinger laughed manically on the Iron throne while Sansa and Daenarys sucked his dick.

Well I had a similar idea, but it involved him and Varrys toasting in the empty throne room while everyone was dead outside.

He is supposed to be wonky. He is the biggest mastermind and smartest person around as well as a hurt boy and in unrequited love.

The accent change is deliberate.

I actually found Littlefinger very well acted and one of the best characters in the show.

His quality is subtle and very easy to miss. Remember the scene in Cat's tent when he brought the bones? Look for the change of character from Baelish to Littlefinger when she rejects him. God tier acting right there.

>And you'll hate the show if you read the books.

Not true. The show is extremely well done, follows the source material closely and even the author is advising them on details.

It's a rough estimate. I used to read 100 +/- 20 books a year, now it's more like 50 +/- 10.

Of course, there are people with spreadsheets, catalogues and record keeping, but I never understood that. Check this thread:

Peter Wessel Zapffe's essay The Last Messiah has without a doubt had the most impact on me. Too bad there is no English translation of the book, yet.

>our post is just a sweeping generalisation of "most people are thick, I read so I'm special!".

Nope. It's what you got from my post not what I meant. Remember that most people judge others' action based on what they would do/say in a similar situation.

>>2781022
In a sense. More like I read, because it gives me new ideas to think about. New questions to ask and new information that can help me answer old ones. It's not about the book, it's about what you get from them and the thought process after that.

There is a difference between thinking for 2 seconds what the Sun is made out of and actually spending minutes or God forbid hours wondering about existential conundrums.

The burden of life/family/bills weighs heavy on any normal person and turns them into a mindless machine.

Hence books, escapism, etc.
