Yes, but it has to be completely instrumental, no vocals at all (I always start thinking about the lyrics and it gets in the way putting my thoughts down properly).

Right now, I'm listening to a lot of Soma FM (Drone Zone mostly), and a few select tracks from the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack (no idea why 3-4 of the tracks on loop help me out so much, but they do).

How some of you idiots can actually hate on Erikson/Malazan, quite simply, blows my mind into a million fucking pieces.

Enjoy your continued plebeian reading experiences. The rest of us know the truth.

Don't think like that, Anon. If that is what you produced, then own it. At least if/when you decide to flesh out a plot of some sort, you will have a lot of reference material.

Sometimes there are slumps in inspiration/motivation. It happens to even the most well known writers. Maybe you should take yourself out of your comfort zone in order to get a bit of a jolt going? Sometimes new and unique experiences can give you awesome ideas that, quite simply, beg to be written down.

And just out of curiosity, what do you do that allows for such amounts of reading time? I have similar time allotted but my focus at work is mainly editing the work of others.

How much do you read (obviously you're posting on lit, and so long as you aren't b8ing, this is a serious question :^))? Writing and reading go hand-in-hand.

The first step in turning your fantasy of writing into the real deal is almost always more reading. Read what you wish to write; whether that is fantasy, science fiction, philosophy, weird drug-induced sexual fantasies that involve peanut butter being used as lube, or whatever it is that you are into. One should also note that one does not NEED to read the same genre in which they wish to be writing within. Example: do not feel like you have to be reading Tolkien/Hobb/Erikson/Cook/etc. if your main writing ideas are based within a fantasy realm. You can read science fiction and still get the same type of inspiration.

The next step is to simply write. Write anything at all, no matter what it is, but just put words on paper/screen/napkin/your hand/whatever. One thing that I like to do is create a graveyard file/folder. If I have an idea, or a chapter that I write, I work on it for a bit until I feel like it is complete. After this is done, I give it some time to marinate and then come back to it, giving it a few more reads. If there are changes that need to be made, I usually mark those changes within the author's comments section (in Word/Open Office Writer/etc.) and then continue on with more of the story. However, if the piece that I have written has too many shitty parts, or is not on par with the very baseline of everything else, I put it in the graveyard file so that if there is something that I wish to use later, or maybe something that I would like to reference later on in the story (but feel that it is not appropriate at that point in time), I have it saved somewhere and have not thrown it out.

Also, pro tip: if writing is what you wish to do (this goes for everyone - not just possible b8 OP), do not refer to yourself as an "aspiring writer", or any variant of this term. If you want to write, then fucking do it and just refer to yourself as a writer. I get so fucking many pieces of writing forwarded to me at work from people saying that they are an "aspiring writer" that I almost never give such writing more than a glance anymore. Write for yourself, and nobody else. If it is decent enough, people will take notice.

It is pretty disgusting.

I don't like these booktubers, but some of those posting in here need to revaluate their lives.

I feel bad for the girl now, and I don't want to, because she's a booktuber. But as a parent I can't stand to see idiots acting like this.
