It's more individual tales of heroism in The Silmarillion, as opposed to large scale battles. It's no less awesome though.

Will definitely help to have read the Silmarillion so that you're familiar with the story and the style Tolkien uses in it.

Dance, Dance, Dance (only a sort of sequel, because I read it before AWSC and it didn't matter one bit) is his best IMO. Murakami writes a good set of characters this time AND has something to say about his country and modern society.

I'm much more fond of Murakami's earlier works though (even parts of Pinball are great).

>His short stories are much better.
lol, no. Why do people always think this?

Soseki, Kawabata, Akutagawa, Tanizaki - all are a lot better in my opinion.

Dude is low-tier for Japanese authors.

If he hadn't killed himself no-one would really care. The old cliché of death doing wonders for your career applies here.

It's your job to keep literature elite, huh?

I suppose you only watch foreign language art-house cinema too and listen to nothing but classical music. I'm sure you're a real fun guy to be around.

And I do read literary fiction too. But I'm not so insecure that I have to read nothing but that. I can read for pure entertainment too, no matter what snobs like you think.

Sure, when you get off your pseudo-intellectual high horse (herp derp, fantasy sucks).

Contains a new Black Company tale by Cook, a new Elric tale by Moorcock, plus original shorts by the likes of Wolfe, Erikson, Abercrombie, Lynch, Nix and more.

This anthology is going to rock when I get round to reading it.

Turtles are evil creatures. They move slowly because they are burdened by the weight of sin.

Sorta depends on whether you like 40K and Star Wars, doesn't it?

Always liked the classic: "Tonight we're going to show you eight silent ways to kill a man."

I never claimed Underworld is hard - it's just soulless and damn boring. I kept thinking something might develop and in 350 pages it didn't. I don't feel an obligation after that long to keep hanging around.

>> No.903093 [View]

I'm just impressed you made it that far OP.

I recently tackled Underworld and caved in and quit after about 350 pages.

Yeah, they get worse as they go along.
