sure. I suppose I would be critical of the conceptual / empirical distinction in the later Wittgenstein, as I would be about most of the dualisms he sets up. It's been a while since I've thought about these things. Someday I'd like to attempt an immanent critique of the Investigations

grammatical terms, however, per Wittgenstien, have a reality in material social reality, a Lebensform; they structure that reality and are a part of it.

idk, I mean this quote you have, in and of itself, is sort of Wittgenstein's philosophy, insofar as it posits itself as a purely conceptual investigation.

"metaphysics" is such a boogy-word though that I don't know what you mean

something like that - by materialism I mean a certain sort of dialectical empiricism, what Adorno would have called the primacy of the object over the subject, which on the other hand does not mean that the object, as it immediately exists, is the ultimate truth, but that it itself, even in its primacy, must be understood according to its subjective mediation.

well yeah, but I think Hegel if pressed, forced to be more Heglian than he himself is, becomes materialist. This is basically Adorno's immanent critique of him.

Hegel cum materialism; probably I'm more of an Adornian than anything.

gotcha. I'd oppose Wittgenstein but I'll take him over that any day. I had to sit through this talk at a school I was visiting as a prospective on philosophy of mind and it was just pure neuroscience. I wanted to shoot myself.

what do you mean by new materialism? like that neo-Deleuzian "speculative realist" stuff or some sort of analytic scientistic reductionism?

>> No.5098451 [View]

>>5098432
yeah Wittgensteinians will also tell you how much they lament the lack of influence Wittgenstein really had on the course of analytic philosophy, which empirically is true. There is certainly, for all Wittgenstein's inadequacies, a certain number of paths philosophically that Wittgenstein closed off which nonetheless are being relentlessly pursued

there's no dissolving the opacity out of it - but it's opacity derives not from a lack of precision but the opposite. There isn't really an easy way in but this might be the least difficult:

Try:
Lectures on Negative Dialectics
Lectures on Sociology
Critical Models

and then jump in Dialectic of Enlightenment and Negative Dialectics and Aesthetic Theory or whatever.

yeah i guess i realized i have better things to do with my time like actually writing papers and having real conversations with my colleagues than having 'shitpost-free' conversations on 4chan, know what i mean? like what's the point? like go out in the real world and have a drink with someone smart and get away from here if you actually want to talk about anything worthwhile
