Can someone explains to me why this book is supposed to be scary?

The bits inside the hallway were spooky at first, but by the second exploration I was kinda over it.
The bits about losing your fucking mind is scary, but... eh

i dislike two books. both are rated pretty highly in their own circles. but my reasons for disliking them are polar opposites. one is house of leaves, the other is the sun also rises.

house of leaves is filled with a billion colorful ideas, all purposelessy put there and all clashing. all of them badly executed. sun also rises on the other hand is well executed, satisfyingly written, kinda relatable and purposeful. but its completely devoid of artistic joy, imagination, ideas, creativity and engagement

I actually fell for the meme and read this piece of shit book. Do people really find it scary?

this and hemingway for opposite reasons.

HoL is exploding with imaginative ideas (though all done better before) but they dont mesh at all and it ends up being all try hard cringy filler

Hemingway on the other hand has good minimalistic writing that isnt ugly like HoL. but its all grey and unimaginative. i know that thats the point, but who cares, it isnt beautiful.

this or the sun also rises. one was a cringy tryhard attempt at crazy but i had high hopes for it, the other one just really boring and devoid of anything interesting even if it resonated with me. goes to show that what one looks for in art isnt oneself or awhatever

I'm feeling that depression all those Avatar fans felt after seeing the film for the first time. Nothing else compares. This book just busted a huge load on my face and I enjoyed every last drop of it.

Avatar was just okay btw.

dont judge a book by its cover is usually said in a positive way but i read HoL bcuz its cover and it was painfully awful
