Paying attention to recent politics has really hammered home some things.

All social sciences are stamp collecting exercises at best and an attempt to monopolise either common sense or bullshit at worst. It seems that there is a huge class of unintelligent people with degrees (almost always in social science or humanities subjects) who treat social scientists (or "experts") as all knowing prophets. "Disliking Islam is irrational" "Supporters of X are conveying their Authoritiarian Loving personalities". Its not new.

Even though Economics has not led to the ability to make viable predictions about macroeconomics people in this field have no trouble claiming a monopoly over all sorts of shit.

Even "high culture" is no different. The Republic was literally a wankfest dream by Plato but it is worshipped solely because it is old and other people worship it. It would make no difference whether Plato was praising a technocracy or a democracy or worshipping chickens. What matters is that its old and people can be seen to be praising it.

Also there are people who seriously think that "rigour" and "critical thinking" are thinks you can only get from a university degree.

History the academic subject is just stamp collecting with a marketing / PR spin put on it. Historians have nothing to say.

Philosophy is a circlejerk within the infinite space of unfalsifiable things to say. Of course the humanities and social sciences are leftist West hating breeding grounds.

It is clear that people use Shakespeare as a God to worship rather than look at him for what he was: a guy who wrote plays for people with less education than 7 year olds today. This is because many art forms are used solely as a social posturing tool by pseudo intellectuals.

>go for a walk after downloading Four Thought episodes from BBC radio 4
>a show that has talks from "intellectuals"

Holy shit. What a joke. There was a Jewish sounding woman economist who called everyone who disagrees with her irrational (she was literally talking about promoting big government and indoctrination of kids for SJW values). There were some literary types that gave it their best shot but ultimately had nothing more than "muh smartphone taking attention muh modern fast paced life muh feels". And a philosopher who did the same as the literary types but with a framework that produced zero insight.

Is the intelligentsia really so intellectually bankrupt? I always joke it is but this was shocking.

Why won't the pretentious pseuds admit that the Munchhausen trilemma clearly shows that the academia-media-publishing industrial complex promotes nothing but unfalsifiable garbage?

Is anyone else tired of faggy numale or pretentious Oxbridge / New England wannabe tosh? The latter is particularly awful these days because the stuff they worship was created by people writing for non intellectuals (e.g., Shakespeare writing plays for illiterate villagers to watch, Dickens writing for chimney sweepers) and they can't even be bothered to stay within their ascetic bubble. They try to appropriate low culture.

>at work at my wagecuck job
>pop music played as muzak all day long
>it's always Staceys singing about Chads or Chads singing about Staceys and being rich
>that my name is no song comes on with the woman saying she rejects and laughs at losers
>meanwhile many of the customers literally are Chads with Staceys
>some customers are jailbait
>have to go through all this with my awful wagecuck job and uniform

Is society laughing at me? Should I quit if I live with my parents and don't need the job?

I work for 6 hour shifts and 4 shifts a week but it is so brain destroying and I dread it all week. One shift ruins an entire day. I hate being surrounded by normies.

I am completely furious with the result. Sixty-four per cent of my town’s votes were counted for leave, and I don’t think I have ever been so disappointed. Almost everything that made Britain great came from being a part of the structure of the EU, and I feel as if casual racism and colloquial xenophobic reactions to immigrants have blinded so many people to the extent in which they would rather rid immigrants than anything else …there were so many benefits of being in the EU that people took for granted, and by the time they notice it’ll already be too late. I feel scared for the future of the economy and the future of our country too. I am not feeling proud to be British, and I think that the majority of my demographic feel similarly.

Is anyone else seeing this huge Scientism strain running throughout public discourse? Maybe I'm spending too much time on Reddit, where everyone is either an SJW or suffering from Scientism. And it's not just STEM autists, it's even normies. It seems there's a fucking "Expert" for everything.

Economists, psychologists, historians, journalists, political "scientists", policy "experts"... fucking hell, and I used to laugh at Africans because of witch doctors!

>see book by AC Grayling
>it's a collection of many short essays on different subjects
>pretty much every one is "dis famous philosopher thought that because he was Christian, the other thought that because he was an idealist"
>Grayling sets up the obvious questions in each topic that any layman could ask
>offers zero insight and zero examples of non trivial reasoning

This is just sad. You can spend decades in Oxbridge but you still can't gain one tiny bit of non trivial reasoning ability after all that time. Philosophy is just applied common sense plus shitloads of PR to promote your particular piece of nebulous unfalsifiable assertions in the infinite miasma of possible unfalsifiable assertions.

REEEEEEEEE

I haven't read any book for over a week because I'm 100 pages in to Nicolas Nickleby and IT'S SO FUCKING CRUSHINGLY DULL AND LONG WINDED but I'm a UKer who hasn't read any Dickens books before and I don't want to be seen as a pleb due to this.

I'm also starting to abhor art in general. I hate that I have to read for cultural capital reasons. I don't even enjoy genre fiction but I still feel the pressure to read.

I just fucking hate this pretentious academia-publishing-media industrial complex induced spin that books are a part of. I wish people saw books like chocolate bars or YouTube videos. Used and forgotten about, not heralded as containing profound insights / wisdom / anything.
