As some of you already know, I've started to create and upload bundles of philosophy texts (mostly in .pdf format) in order to make them readily available to interested /lit/izens. As was probably apparently from the last bundle, my selected texts are and will be somewhat idiosyncratic.

As noted, all requests and suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Several responses to comments from the last thread (insofar as I recall): 1) a feminism (Butler, et. al.) bundle will be forthcoming, 2) Agamben is included in today's bundle (as are Hardt and Negri), 3) an extensive Heidegger bundle will also be forthcoming), 4) I actually found some texts about or by Proclus although you may already have them - 5) I'm thinking about how to do both a few bundles dedicated to older philosophy and perhaps an introductory bundle or two. We'll see.

The last bundle focused on Slavoj Zizek (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A2I5DZQ3).).

List and link for today's bundle forthcoming.

Might as well just make an existentialism bundle if you're bothering with Camus

intro to philo? try The story of Philosophy by Will Durant, for a great intro up to the 19th century, after you have to read individual books, a lighter intro would be Sophie's world by Jostein Gaarder.

We're getting a Heidegger pack.

Isabelle, do you have some stuff from Roland Barthes? I understand it's moving outside of philosophy in the strict sense, but maybe you could include some cultural studies stuff in a general Theory pack??

Anything regarding symbolic logic? Also Wittgenstein (although I have much on paper). Pretty please?

Zizek? really? That's bold....a little too far beyond the average /lit/ goer I think...Zizek is some seriously deep insane shit.

>> No.814920

There's a lot of excellent stuff in this bundle. The Zizek one was a little haphazard.

>>814507

Depending on what you mean, probably not.

My pleasure.

>>814596
>>814610

Sure, I'll look into it.

>>814902

Lacan has basically been out of fashion for awhile, yes, but Zizek actually writes pretty accessibly. He's often accused of being an entertainer rather than a philosopher proper, but when this accusation is made, it's a sure sign that the accuser hasn't read The Sublime Object of Ideology, The Ticklish Subject, Tarrying with the Negative, etc.

>>814565

To be frank, I actually abhor most "introductory" work in philosophy like the ones to which you are referring (Durant, especially, is terrible). I think people should begin with something that they want to understand, an actual text in philosophy that interests them for whatever reason, and then appeal to the appropriate secondary literature and so forth until they understand it. Then they can proceed from there, following associative chains, influences, and so forth. As such, if I do an introductory pack, it's probably not going to contain Durant and Sophie's World. Unfortunately, because of what I just said, I'm not sure exactly what it WILL contain.

wow thanks for this

>> No.816343

holy shit op, thanks for this. there are some things in here that i've been meaning to read but haven't had a chance to pick up yet (i.e. "reading capital").

zizek is good at being both an entertainer and a serious philosopher. i saw him speak at the brecht forum this past october and it was great.

is anyone here really into agamben? i have "the coming community" if anyone wants it.

I remember once as an undergrad I included a Gramsci quotation in some paper, and the professor asked where I got the translation with fair interest (from another, older professor). It is hard to get English translations.

Yes. If I have the energy, I will do the Heidegger bundles later tonight or tomorrow.
