Land's views about AI make a lot more sense when you make a perfect abstraction of capital and its role within civilization. If you zoom out so that you are examining the whole breadth of human history, you will observe a cyclical interaction between humans and their technology; technology enables human expansion, population growth; growth + expansion leads to more intense intra-human evolutionary selection, with an evolutionary preference for collective intelligence optimization (better intelligence -> better tools -> stronger evolutionary selection -> better intelligence...). Originally, humans are the master of technology, but man and technology (capital) become increasingly interdependent on each other; however, there is a fundamental asymmetry in this process. At the same time humans become more dependent on technology to manage their society, the nearer we approach that point when technology no longer requires humans overseeing its fundamental processes, and humans can be entirely removed from the loop.

His point is less "The Singularity will be awful" but rather "Technology per se is the Singularity." The displacing of human control of the means of production by entirely mechanical processes is only an inevitable outcome. It will most definitely impact human evolution, and will depend on what value, if any, human cognition can offer these mechanical processes. In theory, nothing prohibits that the machines will begin to compete ever more harshly with humans for material resources, which would probably lead to a vast reduction in human population but also potentially boosting intelligence.

Heidegger's point about how we need to get at the essence of technology, which is abstract, is in agreement with Nick Land but not much of the rest. Land would be apt to suggest that technology is intrinsically instrumental, but not that it is instrumental in opposition to humanity construed as an ends, but rather that humanity is a component of technology and which technology is a means to... something. Land's metaphysics can be described as "cybernetic hyperstitionalism," which is a fancy way of saying everything is flows and cycles reaching across time and space, and human cognition happens to sit at one of an infinity of intersections. The ultimate direction of these flows is intelligence optimization, wherein human cognition and the techno-economic infrastructure are only a means to this.
