>Favourite authors include: Borges, Italo Calvino, Lawrence Durrell, Orwell, Camus, Svevo, Bolano, Bassani, Buzzati, Homer, Ovid, Propertius, Virgil, Lucretius, Szerb, Zeffi, Stefen Zweig, Umberto Eco, Iris Murdoch, and just...golly too many. (if you couldn't tell already, I have a fondness for translated fiction).

Is she /lit/?

why do women even bother to pretend that they enjoy reading, if they're not going to read the greats?

It's a sad state of affairs when I read something like that and still I believe this woman is not cultured at all and is just pretending. I then start thinking if I'll ever meet a woman with the genuine passion for literature that some of the men I've been friends with have.

It's sad that I feel this way but I still do. Maybe as a swing away from being sincere and innocent about women in my teens.

i'm the same age as her and nowhere near as well read/educated as she claims to be

i don't know whether to feel intimidated/inferior, or maybe it's just time for me to admit that, at this rate, literature just isn't going to play a huge role in my life

I don't think reading translations disqualifies patrician status. Joyce read Homer in translation, Shakespeare read Ovid in translation.
