Sunset found her squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up she was shitting brown water. The more she drank, the more she shat, but the more she shat, the thirstier she grew, and her thirst sent her crawling to the stream to suck up more water. When she closed her eyes at last, Dany did not know whether she would be strong enough to open them again.

Tattoos are for people that have image problems, that's why I have one. That being said, They're wonderful false confidence boosters. I got mine as transient symbols, I can confer meaning on them as they lose their previous significance and in that way remind me of goals that I have in life (at that time obviously)
Pic related is not my tattoo, it's just /lit/-related :^)

24 yo American woman here. After I graduated from Wellesley I needed to find myself, and decided to forgo yoga training and travel the world and write about my experiences and the impact they have on my life. (I haven't been outside the country since I volunteered in Costa Rica for a week in during the summer in High School, where I learned how hard some people have it).

I've been all over Europe (s/o to Truow!) and I'm currently in Barcelona, where I love the incredible architecture, the breathtaking art history, the luscious music, the exquisite tapas, the vibrant nightlife and the chance to explore my sexuality with the interesting people I meet. The freedom is like nothing I've experienced before. Everybody should experience this, and I think there's no doubt that travel makes you a richer person.

I recently got this tattoo in cool parlor after clubbing in Kreuzberg (in Berlin) (this is me on a beach in Morocco), which I think defines the kind of character I want to be. It reminds me never to take things for granted because we all face challenges, and no matter how hard life can seem, you need to stay grounded.

There's all SORTS of real swell quotes you can get tattooed on your body. We got a wide selection, just have a look, fella:

For your high school graduate who took AP English, you got your average Vonnies:
>So it goes
>Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt

Your slightly less popular lil' Cammy (for the people who read the wrong translation, wink):
>It is better to burn than to disappear

Your F. Scott Fitzies (for the ladies, in par-tic-ular):
>So we beat on, boats against the current, born back ceaselessly into the past
>That's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool

Your rarer Southern Cormies:
>There is no such joy in the tavern as upon the road thereto
>If he is not the word of God, God never spoke

And the almost-never Pedo-Nabby:
>But in my arms she was always Lolita

Take your pick, friend!

Not only that, but it is hard for someone with a tattoo to admit that their tattoo is actually stupid, especially to themselves. So instead of doing so, they stay juvenile and pretentious because they would even worse about outgrowing a tattoo

That's why I will never get one. I fear defining myself like that because I know I always change, and inking something to my body might make me unconsciously guilty about changing and growing up.
Like, once you tell someone you enjoy something--do you ever feel the need to keep up that interest, even years after you have kind of outgrown that thing? If you never mentioned it to another person and defined yourself that way you wouldn't give a shit. I feel like a tattoo would hold me back.

I will leave my body unmarked so it can comfortably house whatever person happens to be inside of it, whether that is the person of today 40 years in the future. I will allow myself to be a changing, malleable human; each new day a new life, new me.

I kind of like what this dude said. Maybe I'd get something along those lines, but my body is a pretty crappy canvas.

There is one text tattoo that I did like (but wasn't really literary). A girl I vaguely knew, who had ridiculously bad luck, had a tattoo on her upper arm that said, "It could be worse." And the story that came with it was that she got pulled over and, for (supposedly) no reason, the cop started dragging her out of the car. And then he saw the tattoo and let her go. That story could be made up, now that I think about it. And I might like the tattoo less if that is the case.

Slut is a demeaning term, it's like niggers calling themselves niggers. It's a poor word, doesn't show anything other than that you have a tumblr on all the Twilight books you've read.

On top of that, even if we were to just take it at face value, it's a shitty message. A book slut? she can't stick to one, has to read multiple books at once while not being able to just stick to a book and finish it?

I don't understand why anyone would want to call themselves a slut in any way, under any circumstances and be proud of it, let alone have it inked on you. What's next? ''Book pimp''?

tattoos are for insecure people.

I don't think tattoos are just for the insecure. I think it takes courage and self confidence to get some of the more extreme tattoos I've seen in my life.

>> No.5167501

>>5167486
It's exactly that perception that shows why they're for the insecure. If the perception is that it takes courage, self confidence, or badassery to get a tattoo, then people who wish to project that will get one. Exactly because tatttoos signify these things to others is why someone would use them as compensation.

>being such a bore that you have to pay money for somebody to literally draw shit on your skin to express your "creativity" to the world

You might as well just get PLEB tattooed forehead because that's what respectable people see when you walk in the room all inked up. Jesus Christ you fucking kids, man.

This.

I know people who have gotten tats to memorialize dead pets and loved ones. People who get them in hidden spots - very rarely showing them off - just for the personal significance. People who are more confident than I. It isn't about seeming creative or tough. Not all the time, at least. Some people just like it. Others use it to remember things that are important to them. It's like a ceremony: committing something to your skin gives it significance.

>Ask yourself if there's any time you would ever see a tattoo and think, "Wow that's really insightful/interesting/cool/profound"
For a lot of people it's not about showing off, or what other people think about your tattoo, you numbnut. It's pretty blatant you only think about how other people might percieve you. Live your own life, stop being so insecure.

>> No.5167632

I've seen plenty of tattoos that I thought were cool, interesting, or insightful. I don't know if I'd describe any piece of art anywhere as "profound," as I reserve that word for things that carry real weight. But you seem to have some issues to work through about letting other people express themselves free of your judgment.
