This is a thread for genuine, regular users of this board.

It does not relate to literature, but I hope that this thread can help return this board to that purpose: the discussion of literature, as well as philosophy, free from the inane and irrelevant fraternizing that has come to characterize /lit/ in the last week or so.

To summarize, get the hell out. If you have started using this board in the last week, leave.

Nobody here wants to deal with the mess that you generate every day, and you won’t lurk or learn what and how to post. It’s become incredibly obvious that /lit/ doesn’t have an active mod, and you guys are free to post whatever you want and keep it there as long as you want. There are more of you, and we appreciate that, but we don’t want you here.

Go back to /mu/, guys. That board might be in trouble, but you won’t make it any better by staying here. You don’t really care about literature, and debating whether music or literature is better is a really stupid waste of everybody’s time.

I only read occasionally and not that much, I have read more fantasy and chick-lit than anything else by volume.

I'm not a literature major, I studied economics at uni, and my main interests are economic, political and sociological.

Despite my lack of literary qualifications, let me tell you OP: you are a massive idiot.

/lit/ hasn't changed in the last week. I would know, I've been unemployed for the last 24 days and have been refreshing /lit/ god knows how many times a day in that period, I can attest that nothing makes the past week different from the three before it, or the months before that.

Now in my capacity of someone who like to think about societies, systems and relations, let me tell you what happens to groups that don't let in new people:
They become increasingly self-referential
The self-image of the group and it's members solidifies, making the group more likely to exclude people who disagree with it, rather than consider their opinions.
The group becomes less reflective, less introspective, and more xenophobic.
Eventually, after an extended period of decline, even the longer-lasting members of the group grow sick of it's bickering and rehashing of the same old discussions, and leave.
Finally, the group consists of a handful of people circle-jerking about how awesome they are until they all die.

So OP, why don't you just stick a fucking sock in it and welcome new people on this board. Instead of acting like a child who has to share his toy, teach the new people how to use it, and show them the proper spirit of /lit/ by not making shitpost threads like this.

Even if I believed all of that, which I don't (although I've just got back from two weeks climbing and scuba diving in Tanzania, so I suppose some of us here do travel and even go outdoors occasionally), I meant "What have you done intellectually?".

Its not just taking pride in a job. I taught myself CAD design (maya)to design my products, HTML to make my site, and learned hundreds of factory processes to learn how to construct them. I went on an accountancy course to learn how to manage my companies finances, I taught myself every salient piece of information I needed to know to start a successful company. On top of that, I have given a job to 12 people, with decent pay, who work in a wonderfully relaxed environment, and would otherwise be doing something they hated.

In terms of intellectual pursuits; I have learned to play a range of instruments (reading score properly and memorizing scales and chords with most variations) I am writing a novel (although I don't expect it to go anywhere). I spend a lot of time drawing and painting - learning how to capture an image.
