The true Catholic political position in the modern world is unironically the Third Position.

It combines the Church's economic and social teachings with its timeless teachings on morality and sexual ethics.

It's merely become impolite to say this since the deaths of Franco and Salazar and the rise of absolute American hegemony.

As America begins to falter, I expect it to round back into fashion as a topic in Catholic thought.

Not to mention the monarchists have come back into fashion in the last decade. Hell, our lad Assad wants to make himself a king, so that's a feather in their cap.

I read about 20 pages of it (got bored since I am not invested in Catholic socialism) but it sounds like the author is a proto-Francis who doesn't want the church to function as a hieratically distinct parallel pseudo-state organized in competition against the unconverted. Now the logical consequences of this, which I suspect he arrives at, would be to vastly increase laity oversight and participation in church organization and bureaucracy to better achieve the goals of providing charity and care for humanity— even within the first 20 pages the author speaks approvingly of learning from secular humanists while being dismissive of conservative anti-revolutionary or reactionary positions, of which he gives a "Latin Mass Society" as an example (which i assume has since morphed into today's sedevacantism or something like that). So a Christian church which is neither Christian nor a church, but merely catholic in the sense of universal—the Church as a big progressive NGO with Jesus as its mascot, which it is in fact becoming. The writer, if he did in fact get to this point, was well ahead of his time!
