Is this book any good? Or is there any good science fiction in general? Like, at least on the level with 2001: A Space Odyssey (film) or Neon Genesis Evangelion (both pretty basic example I know but I'm just trying to be graphic) or something like that from some other type of medium. I mean, I've read stuff like Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World, but I wasn't too impressed. I want something truly transcendental; is there any science fiction that is truly a work of art?

Yes, there is a lot of good sci fi. Alistair Reynolds tells amazing stories about real people in unreal worlds. The Prefect and Chasm City are great.
Peter Watts reveals what it is to be human using elaborate tools and a lot of brain surgery. Blindsight is amazing, but don't try this one if you're not ready to actually sit down and think.
Asimov's short stories may seem outdated, but they do open your mind to different, strange worlds.
Everything by Philip K Dick will fuck you up, on a psychological level.
I wasn't too impressed with F451 and BNW either.
