So, lyrics are quite often poetic. This is especially the case with underground metal bands and indie bands. Share some of you favorite poetic lyrics! I'll start

Traveling swallowing Dramamine
Feeling spaced breathing out Listerine
I'd said what I'd said that I'd tell ya
And that you'd killed the better part of me
If you could just milk it for everything
I've said what I'd said and you know what I mean
But I still can't focus on anything
We kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves
Traveling swallowing Dramamine
Look at your face like you're killed in a dream
And you think you've figured out everything
I think I know my geometry pretty damn well
You say what you need so you'll get more
If you could just milk it for everything
I've said what I said and you know what I mean
But I can't still focus on anything

pic related, but not this ^

I'm pretty sure it's "I think I know my geography pretty damn well".

You’re always sorry,
You’re always grateful,
You’re always wondering what might have been.
Then she walks in.

And still you’re sorry,
And still you’re grateful,
And still you wonder and still you doubt.
And she goes out.

You’re sorry-grateful,
Regretful-happy,
Why look for answers
Where none occur?
You’ll always be what you always were,
Which has nothing to do with,
All to do with her.

Ya'll don't know shit bout explicate-able music till you've heard Mr. Waits.
Well they call me William the Pleaser
I sold opium, fireworks and lead
Now I'm telling my troubles to strangers
When the shadows get long I be dead

Now her hair was as black as a bucket of tar
Her skin as white as a cuttlefish bone
I left Texas to follow Lucinda
Now I'll never see heaven or home

I meet her when Charlotte slivers in moonlight
A sly grin and a bow full of stars
I got a kid who captures a firefly
And leaves it over there to die at the shore

As I kick at the clowns at my hanging
As I swing out all over the crowds
I will search every face for Lucinda
And she'll go off with me down the hill

I tought I'd broke loose of Lucinda
Rain returned and so did the wind
I cast this burden on the God's that's within me
Now he'll miss (?!) the world and go free

The devil danced inside empty pockets
But she didn't want money or pearls
Boy that wasn't enought for Lucinda
She wasn't that kind of girl

Now I've fallen from grace for Lucinda
Who'd ever tought that Hell would be so cold?

Oh, noose
Tied myself in, tied myself too tight

Looking kind of anxious in your cross-armed stance
Like a bad tempered prom queen at a homecoming dance
And I claim I'm not excited with my life anymore
So I blame this town, this job, these friends, the truth is it's myself
And I'm trying to understand myself and pinpoint who I am
When I finally get it figured out, I've changed the whole damn plan

Oh, noose
Tied myself in, tied myself too tight
Oh, noose
Tied myself in, tied myself too tight

Talking shit about a pretty sunset
Blanketing opinions that I'll probably regret soon
Changed my mind so much I can't even trust it
My mind changed me so much I can't even trust myself

Uh, four score and seven beers ago, uh huh

Uh, sittin' on the front stoop, wonderin' what we gon' do?
What the world come to, who you gonna run to?
Another year older, and deeper in debt
I'm gonna rob the Prez-O-Dent, uh
You pay those bills and you get that rent
I'm gonna rob the Prez-O-Dent, ah

Fillin' up the backpack, back in the Cadillac
Rollin' down to DC to get my money back
Yo, this is awesome, a-loadin' up a shotgun
A-bury me in cash in a big black coffin
A-runnin' through the White House, mask on, lights out
In the Oval Office like, "EMPTY YO' POCKETS!"
Stickin' up Congress, purses, watches

Well, I ain't seen green since I don't know when
I'm gonna rob the Prez-O-Dent
I don't make no money, don't make no sense
I'm gonna rob the Prez-O-Dent
You gotta pay those bills, you gotta get that rent
I'm gonna rob the Prez-O-Dent
Another year older and deeper in debt
I'm gonna rob the Prez-O-Dent

he can be quite cryptic...

Piglet has whiskers but know
It could laugh right off the desk
Laptop computers know it was the fodder
That got them jobs
Featherweight fathers
Know nothing about daughters
And sons be damned
The rest of the buttons are pushing themselves
To an early grave
Partial schemes, pleasure schemes
Business shemes, pleasure swells
We all got jobs
Like our opinions and millions of readers
And they pass, we fall
You'll have a hard time
When you deal with folks like managers
Everybody "Wang Chung" tonight
And I'm given to thoughts of happiness
Do-si-do to the head of the class
And I'm given to thoughts of happiness

But sometimes a mountain can sing
Or hum at least I have heard one
Humming on the evening we ...

But sometimes horizons can close their eyes
And drift into one moment somewhere
Halfway between

I was thinking that maybe I'd get a maid
Find a place nearby for her to stay.
Just someone to keep my house clean
Fix my meals and go away.
A maid - A man needs a maid.

To give a love, you gotta live a love.
To live a love, you gotta be "part of."
When will I see you again?

A while ago somewhere I don't know when
I was watching a movie with a friend.
I fell in love with the actress.
She was playing a part that I could understand

A maid - A man needs a maid.

When will I see you again?

more Modest Mouse:

Well, all's not well
But I'm told that it'll all be quite nice
You'll be drowned in boots like Mafia
But your feet will still float like Christ's
And I'll be damned
They were right
I'm drowning upside down
My feet afloat like Christ's
I'm in heaven
Trying to figure out which stack
They're going to stuff us atheists into
When Peter and his monkey laugh
And I laugh with them
I'm not sure what at
They point and say
"We'll keep you in the back
Polishing halos, baking manna and gas"
Well, some guy comes in looking a bit
Like everyone I ever seen
He moves just like Crisco disco
Breath 100% Listerine
He says looking at something else
But directing everything to me
"Every time anyone gets on their knees to pray
Well, it makes my telephone ring
And I'll be damned"
He said, "You were right
No one's running this whole thing"
He had a theory, too
He said that God takes care of himself
God takes care of himself
And you of you

And all them vulgar kings on their dirty thrones
Who among us will avenge Ms. Nina Simone?
And all them vulgar kings on their dirty thrones
Who among us will avenge Ms. Nina Simone?

There's fresh meat in the club tonight
God bless our dead marines
Someone had an accident above the burning trees
While somewhere distant, peacefully
Our vulgar leaders sleep
Dead kids don't get photographed
God bless our dead marines

The hungry and the hanged
The damaged and the done
Striving along this spinning rock
Tumbling past the sun
Get through this life without killing anyone
And consider yourself golden

Lost a friend to cocaine
Couple friends to smack
Troubled hearts map deserts
And they rarely do come back
Lost a friend to oceans
Lost a friend to hills
Lost a friend to suicide
Lost a friend to pills
Lost a friend to monsters
Lost a friend to shame
Lost a friend to marriage
Lost a friend to blame
Lost a friend to worry
And lost a friend to wealth
Lost a friend to stubborn pride
And then I lost myself

I love my dog and she loves me
The world's a mess and so are we
She tumbles long green, muddy fields
Sick with joy and glee
And as she dreams sweet puppy dreams
Whimpering gently

There's fresh meat in the club tonight
God bless our dead marines
Someone had an accident above the burning trees
While somewhere distant, peacefully
Our vulgar princes sleep
Dead kids don't get photographed
God bless this century

Mindless violence
Well let me try to paint it
Here's the 5 steps
In hopes to explain it
One!
Its me and my Nation against the World
Two!
Then me and my Clan against the Nation
Three!
Then me and my Fam against the Clan
Four!
Then me and my brother with no hesitation
Go against the Fam until they cave in
Five!
Now who's left in this deadly equation?
That's right, it's me against my brother
Then we point a Kalashnikov
And kill one another

Christmas Twin Falls, Idaho is her oldest memory
She was only two
It was the first time she felt blue

Cafeteria Harrison Elementary
Beneath a parachute I saw her without shoes

7UP I touched her thumb and she knew it was me
Although she couldn't see
Unless of course she peeked

My mom's good she got me out of Twin Falls, Idaho
Before I got too old
You know how that goes

That's where she still was the summer she turned 17
In 1983
Two weeks after me

Last I heard was she had twins
Or maybe it was three
Although I've never seen
But that don't bother me

Then it's easy to miss what really goes on
But I've seen miracles

And I see miracles everyday
Oceans spanning beyond my sight

And everything chilling underwater, please

"You and I in a little toy shop buy a bag of balloons with the money we’ve got, set 'em free at the break of dawn 'til one by one, they were gone." So when you’re gone, and all we’re left with are questions unasked and unanswered, I will wonder where the crows go, and what you’ve got yourself into these days. Oh, but honey! If you're called that, you must be fond of the way the sun strikes when it’s striking you. Well, I don’t mind turning water into wine all winter; and you just might find we are found when we’re found out. Oh, my darling, "if I could find a souvenir to tell the world that I was here, I’d find myself a red balloon, let it go, and think of you."

Time is a thing we must accept
The unexpected I sometimes fear.
Just when I feel there's no excuse for what happens,
Things fall into place
I know there is no way to avoid the pain that we must go through
to find the other half that is true
Destiny is what we all seek
Destiny was waiting for you and me

I believe behind confusion awaits the truth for us
Past the obstacles we face
I value our life and trust
Years of questioning why things happen the way they do in life
Wishing that I could turn back time,
So we could join our souls
I know there is no way to avoid the pain that we must go through
to find the other half that is true
Destiny is what we all seek
Destiny was waiting for you and me

Not so much poetic, more like an essay. Awesome, nonetheless.

if every child chased dreams of societal reorganisation in place of sweet wrappers and escape, then we would see Mr Cadbury's enlightened industrialism for what it really fucking is: social morphine - we'd have ourselves a pre-school army. Walt Disney is pushing social and sexual hierarchy, my bed-time stories like a gmtv gomulka. slumbering in my jimmy-jammies, my wondrous imagination long since closed and put away. willy wonka was a capitalist confidence trickster, a poster boy for neo-liberalism, a full-stop on revolt. and the bfg a propagandist for an unaccountable regime, orwell's vision with a wrinkled face. hold out the arm and quiet the voice. my first macdonald's visit a vaccination, like the time my parents took me to the school / clinic, and handed me over to the teacher / nurse / whatever. i too got sucked in by the myth machine. unattainable, but i just wish we weren't so f**king mindless. drowned in a recurring nightmare of causal influence. a little more suspicion in our fairy tales please. mum and dad, I'm sorry, i won't do what Enid Blyton told me. our jealousy at their opportunity: the once weak will one day rule this world. the monsters underneath the bed are merely jaded failings.

Can you feel it ,see it, hear it today?
If you can't, then it doesn't matter anyway
You will never understand it 'cause it happens too fast
And it feels so good, it's like walking on glass
It's so cool, it's so hip, it's alright
It's so groovy, it's outta sight
You can touch it, smell it, taste it so sweet
But it makes no difference 'cause it knocks you off your feet
You want it all but you can't have it
It's cryin', bleedin', lying on the floor
So you lay down on it and you do it some more
You've got to share it, so you dare it
Then you bare it and you tear it
You want it all but you can't have it
It's in your face but you can't grab it
It's alive, afraid, a lie, a sin
It's magit, it's tragic, it's a loss, it's a win
It's dark, it's moist, it's a bitter pain
It's sad it happened and it's a shame
You want it all but you can't have it
It's in your face but you can't grab it
What is it?
It's it
What is it?...

Now this is the story all about how
my life got flipped, turned upside down
and I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air

In West Philadelfia born and raised
on the playground where I spent most of my days
chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
and all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
when a couple of guys said "we're up in no good"
started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
and said "you're moving with your aunte and uncle in Bel-Air"

I begged and pleaded with her the other day
but she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
she gave me a kissin' and she gave me my ticket
I put my walkman on and said I might aswell kick it

First class, yo this is bad,
drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass
is this what the people of Bel-Air livin' like,
hmm this might be alright!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
licensplate said "Fresh" and had a dice in the mirror
if anything I could say that this cab was rare
but I thought now forget it, yo home to Bel-Air

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
and I yelled to the cabby "Yo, home smell you later"
looked at my kingdom I was finally there
to settle my throne as the prince of Bel-Air

The loneliness seeps in the car
The same one that’s in her eyes
As she sucks on a cigarette you left her
Back when venus fly traps lined her floor
She’s no spider but it might make a nice metaphor

He clumsily opens his mouth
And slurs what he tumbles out
Well no one could miss such a waste of breathing
“My sweet girl you’ve come back home to me”
“My sweet boy, you’ll sleep in the sea”

Silently
Are you watching him sleep
Bending spires for him
All for what he did
With the skeletons
We’ll hide in the woodsheds
And lie in wait for what?
What do we lie in wait for?

Sweet Molly
Your father screams
“Where have you been?”
What if the stars fell in the sea around your feet
Would you still be gone?

And some say I brought her to life
To deliver a silent knife
Which now sits comfortably between his skin
Death is creeping through the chandeliers
With a crumpled smile she disappears

Where you lie
Has anybody said you’ve got the saddest eyes?
Just don’t breathe
Has anybody said you’ve got the biggest teeth?

Where have you been?
What if the sadness in the world fell at your feet
Would this still be wrong?
Just when you thought it was ok
You were right
You were wrong
