I want books that explain the psychology laid bare in Neon Genesis Evangelion. I feel like I didn't fully grasp it, I connected a lot with the main characters.
Is it all just about loneliness and youth traumas that determine your life? Also why is the sefirot in the show? I know very little about the kabbalah, only that it has to do with consciousness.
Please guide me, I'm confused.

Evangelion has a lot to do with the history of anime and it spawned an entire subgenre known as sekai-kei. If you want to understand evangelion is specific don't go looking for khabala and all of that. Go read Iriya no Sora, Ufo no Natsu or Bokurano, which are directly related to the set of conventions Evangelion established and therefore related to the themes it explores.

>In the end, Shinji rejects the Human Instrumentality Project as false, and reaches the same conclusion as Anno: while co-existence brings pain, the only alternative is a grim one – the total dissolution of the self. Every aspect of Evangelion reflects this, and Shinji serves as the perfect symbol for the hikikomori, the modern ego attempting to exert itself in a repressive society, cast by Anno in the same sympathetic light in which Freud views the “fragile” human ego. Indeed, in the television finale, all the characters (or at least their manifestations in Shinji’s mind) react to Shinji’s decision with jubilation; the darkness surrounding the infinite stage shatters and the images of all the other people in his life, including his father and his dead mother, offer him congratulations. In rejecting a painless loss of identity in favor of defining his own existence at the risk of pain, Shinji has risen above the short-sighted isolationism Anno earlier disparaged.

>For Lacan, there is no end to this story, it continues on dialectically, the subject absolutely able to change the Symbolic world around is, fundamentally unable to alter the forms of its own constitution. The impossible will happen, things will change, but what we can read from this ending is that the subject cannot. The radical change is always too traumatic for the subject, to close to the means of its constitution. And so while the Symbolic can be radically altered, the split in the subject will always return, along with it, this potential for greatness and its inexorable madness.

Hegel is just neo-platonism for those that love to speak in the most obscure terminology possible. If op wants esoterism he should get esoterism.

>>13409703
Read about gnosticism and jewish esoterism if you want to understand NGE. You can read a few introdutory books by Guenon or get introduced to hermeticism through other authors. These mystic schools are all related.
