Dropped out, I was doing Bio for a few years.
I don't regret it, it got me out the house. I realise I should go back to do something or other, but I like working in a pub. Everyone I work with is a graduate anyway.
I'll save my money and go travelling, I think that's a better use of my time and money.

You have a couple of options.

>Column writing
We had teachers who wrote columns about once a month for the Education section. Column writing is tough, though. You have to have a good voice and be persuasive in about 500 to 750 words. And it's not for everyone. I preferred to just stick to beat writing.

>Stringer (freelance) work
Ask your newspaper or local mags if they have any stringer opportunities available. I started out as an in-office sports stringer. If you have an area of expertise or interest, express that. We had someone who freelanced the ag beat because it's what they were interested in. They wrote one or two stories a week, and it gave coverage to a group that otherwise wouldn't get it. We also had freelancers who wrote for our magazines division. Just call/email the editor or managing editor and talk with them about what you're interested in.

>Shop a story
You can always write a feature and shop it around. Get a copy of Writer's Market to find out which publications are the most relevant to your subject area. If you write about fly fishing, The National Review or Floor Coverings Weekly aren't likely your best bets for getting published.

If you're working in elementary/secondary education, know that journalism pays a lot less and the work isn't as stable, which is why I left. My advice is to keep doing what you're doing and go the freelance route. It might develop into a career, but don't give up your paycheck, health insurance and pension just yet.

The Stranger
Fd.Sc Network Engineering and Systems Administration
I can't give a simple yes or no here.

I did learn many new things, but a lot of it was repeating what I did at A-level. I didn't do well enough at A-level to go directly to university, and I didn't have the social confidence and drive to redo my A-levels when everyone from my year had moved on. I successfully completed the Fd.Sc and was invited onto the a bridge course after which I could do a B.Sc. However I became 'disillusioned' because a number of the topics where covering boring and outdated technologies. I did think, if I complete the course I'd have a B.Sc, but really I felt for the money it wasn't worth it. I could spend it on industry certifications to make my self more employable, I could build my own lab and continue to teach myself. Also if I was going to do a B.Sc, I'd what it to mean something, have high academic value rather than just a token. So I quit, and went to work for someone else who had also quit and was running their own IT business.

Shit, im also a EE student and this shit is very true. I think the degree being such a energy draining thing kills the will for concerning with those things.
But i think that sort of problem is also seen in all over STEM and even most humanitarian degrees. One of my uni teachers also had a similar opinion, saying that universities at this point only serve to create "specialized ignorants", optimal for the goverment.
I've many times assisted to history and law classes with a friend of mine and was pretty surprised when the teachers asked how many books they've read recently and only about 5 out of 110 people raised their hands.

A little bit. I love what I study. I used to want to go to graduate school and do a PhD in clinical psychology. But now I get sick to fucking death at the thought of having to do 6 years of research in graduate school. I hate doing research. I hate writing academic research articles and literature reviews in general. So in a last ditch effort to make something of my life I am prepping for the MCAT and will hopefully get into a medical school in the next couple years which will allow me to pursue psychiatry. philosophy, environmental biology and french

last good book i read ? i mean , Dune was alright, but maybe LoTR? Sorrow of the war was the best of the past few months.

I think I regret double majoring. I wish I had focused more on Bio, which I plan to do senior year but I could've been much more advanced by now. I love philosophy, but kiekregaard is right about professors. they are leeches. dave in stoner is right: they are only in the academy as a refuge. The academy is no longer a place where we go to do the learning that God wills us to do. It is a 9-5 job like any other for almost all profs. and any eagerness to learn more and improve oneself through reading and writing is snuffed out. The shell of liberal arts colleges has been filled by a new crustacean of the genus trade school of the species impractical arts. So essentially I regret studying philo because it has come to feel like a job not for me but for my friends , the passion we once had has fallen away to an academically mandated cynicism. We used to be interlocutors interlocking everyday. Now it's just not the same and I blame the state of the academy.

That's the plan. I just get really anxious about it because I'll finish my current course by the time I'm 30, and add 2 or 3 years after that for a masters. Computer Science

Not at all. I'm currently in my third year and it seems like something I was born to do. Staring at a terminal for hours on end, fixing bugs, finding an optimal algorithm for every small problem, doing side projects- it has kind of even changed the way I think. Teaching requires a very specific kind of person, and I don't have the patience or desire or mindset to be one. Not even for being a professor, where you can be "yourself" a bit more. I can't stand the students I'm around as it is - even in my senior seminar class, the final point for the English majors in my university - the other people around me seem to almost hate English. They don't want to do the work. They don't care about the literature we're reading. I can't stand academia, really.

It all sounds very rant-y, I'm sure. I just know that my attitude and the very harsh way I'm sure I'd grade simply wouldn't work.

It's an interesting job that starts out low paying but after some experience you start making bank at a major airline. It only requires an FAA license which cost me $8,000 over 6 weeks, compared to my degree which was $80,000 over 4 years.

I make about $32,000 a year at my current job, but the new company that hired me is starting me at $60,000 a year, topping out at $130,000.

If you have even a passing interest in logistics and aviation, I highly recommend it. It's an experience game but it's a solid investment once you get with a major.

I have two friends within the field and most of the people, both of whom I met when I was working at the local community college, not directly from anything work related. It was fairly difficult to accept that EE is just as much a cargo cult as most liberal arts fields, it's just a cargo cult with a higher floor because basic mathematical proficiency is required, but I've more or less come to terms with it at this point. I just don't talk to anyone about my views or about anything I do outside of work and it's basically tolerable. It'd be nice if I could form meaningful connections with others within EE, but it's unlikely to happen as the field tends to be flooded with the kind of morons who actually think solar panels and electric cars are the answer to the major paradigm shifts coming in the near future.

It really only got interesting for me when I got into the digital labs and working with stochastic processes. For the most part what I actually do isn't really "electrical engineering" in the sense that most people think, and I think that finding a niche in which you use your skills to pursue something that interests you is incredibly important. In the beginning, especially signals and systems/systems analysis it's essentially an applied math, but most of the people I went to school with got a lot more interested when they got to communication systems and their digital lab courses later into Junior year/first semester Senior. Also, I really like math, so I took numerical analysis for engineers and elementary stochastic processes and both loved them and found them very useful to what I do in a professional capacity which I guess you could call computational biology at this point (don't doxxx me bro).
