10446298 No.10446298[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

I was there at the dawn of New Western Philosophy, along with Plato, and the we have now, truly carved out two different trends in philosophy, which will dominate the rest up until now.

Plato was a very aspiring to the universal, absolute, which he thought resided in the world of the forms. I am the more grounded figure who is looking at how to live from the lens of an imperfect and often by necessity, imprecise knowledge of the good and of the human condition.

I am pioneering a way of doing philosophy of which sort to bring as much rigour as possible to the subject, but not more than the subject matter would allow.

I am Sean Goonan.

This is The Foundation for Exploration.

You will know me by my trip, from now on. All else are pale imitators, grasping for my charisma. They shall not have it.

I will answer your questions this Christmas. Bring them forth.

Which dialogue did this come from? You know, since I figure you must know with the breadth of reading material under your belt. Couldn't possibly just have lazily pilfered it from social media like the kind of pathetic degenerate you complain about, right?

Do you think we’d be impressed with the fact that you’ve read a bunch of novels that we’ve literally all read?

Also you mention Plato but I don’t see any Plato on this list, nor Aristotle, Descartes, Spinoza, Hume, Kant, Wittgenstein, Kripke, Husserl, Heidegger, or Sartre. You’ve bothered to read Hitler but not Lenin or Mao? Or Martin Luther or Thomas Muntzer?

Also have you read any straight up history books? Just like, plain old ‘history of x place from this year to that year’? Reading Decline of the West isn’t really a substitute for just a couple of plain old history lessons.

It’s called repeating tired blog cliches because you literally don’t know what you don’t know. I would LOVE if you actually wrote a critique of some master, but you haven’t read any. You’ve never read Darwin, Marx, Freud, Saussure and all the others folks have already mentioned, Spinoza, Hume, Hegel and so on. Tell me what exactly is wrong with any of them?

The most obvious thing is that you haven’t read Kant, because your work falls exactly into the problem his critique was set up to discuss, our ability to access the world. The very basic idea that we might not have real access to the world, because however the world is, it would appear to us as mediated by our mental faculties, and we only have access to appearance, not reality, where do you cope with that?

So a Journal by a girl killed by the Nazis, and another book on the Nazis which was out of date before it was published, a study on World War One, and a couple different American history works.

Guns Germs and Steel is mostly bullshit but it’s infinitely more amusing bullshit than your screed. If I’m going to waste my time reading speculative nonsense I appreciate it at least to be amusing, like that or Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind etc.

Here’s a couple of history books I’m earnestly recommending if you want to get just a basic bit of knowledge under your belt;

Roberts - A History of Europe

Stone - Untold Story of the United States

Eric Hobsbawm’s Long 19th Century Trilogy (European history)

EH Carr - History of Soviet Russia

Richard Evan’s Third Reich Trilogy

Anthony Beevor - The Second World War

Tony Judt - Postwar

M. Meredith’s Two books on Africa

(Be back in a bit to finish the list)
