In your opinion, what is the worst or most boring issue or philosophical problem a work of fiction can take on?

I know what you mean, it doesn't even have to make sense anymore, feminists even fight for less rights now, thinking that porn is degrading (but only for the woman), and ofcourse they shouldn't have to carry heavy training dolls in military or firefighting educations, but how the fuck is all this shit gonna help them?

sorry for the terrible writing, I'm tired and i don't care for it.

Authoritarianism. Shit was so 20th century.

Any serious theological discussions. Being an atheist there is no difference reading something like the Summa Theologica and reading a serious discussion on how Ra can also be Amun-Ra.

I don't as much hate a specific issue as I hate an author who gets sidetracked because he cares too much about it, completely forgetting the story and just the book a huge rant completely overshadowing the story you might spot somewhere in the background.

World War II / PEACE RUUUULES / I found Jesus, look how awesome I am (a la latter Dostoyevsky). THey drilled that shit in school and now I hate it. I just get sick of "Germany hated/killed ____, _____, and ______" every fuckin' six months.

I can't stand books about Racial tolerance or whatever, especially if it's from the perspective of a child or innocent family. I read so much of that bullshit in school, it felt like I was being programmed.

I agree that I definitely get sick of LOOK HOW BAD NAZIS WERE! NEVER AGAIN! but I never get tired of anti-war messages. They always get me. Parts of Slaughterhouse-Five make me tear up like a bitch every time I read them: "The formation flew backwards over a German city that was in flames. The bombers opened their bomb bay doors, exerted a miraculous magnetism which shrunk the fires, gathered them into cylindrical steel containers, and lifted the containers into the bellies of the planes. The Germans below had miraculous devices of their own, which were long steel tubes. They used them to suck more fragments from the crewmen and planes. But there were still a few wounded Americans, though, and some of the bombers were in bad repair. Over France, though, German fighters came up again, made everything and everybody as good as new.
When the bombers got back to their base, the steel cylinders were taken from the racks and shipped back to the United States of America, where factories were operating night and day, dismantling the cylinders, separating the dangerous contents into minerals. Touchingly, it was mainly women who did this work. The minerals were then shipped to specialists in remote areas. It was their business to put them into the ground, to hide them cleverly, so they would never hurt anybody ever again."

>Most boring philosophical issue?

Rational empiricism. Specifically, Leibniz. SNOOOOREEEE.

>Worst philosophical issue/problem

Descartes, Cartesian Dualism, the Cogito, anything that postulates that there is a true mind/body distinction between INVISIBLE SOUL MATTER LOLOLOL and PHYSICAL SLAVE BODY.

Knowing that this line of reasoning is STILL propagated by idiot stoner authors just pisses me off. Clinging to dualism is the sign of a bad upbringing and an even worse education.

>> No.995301

Criticism of capitalism. Not that it shouldn't be criticized (it should), but it really got old about 30 years ago. It doesn't need to be the main theme of every modern philosopher in Europe.

>rational empiricism
>philosophical issue
what specific issue are you talking about

>> No.995312

I have problems with books that are specifically about a central romance with no other real conflict/ a stupid conflict like vampires or poorly thought out time travel... not really a philosophical problem I suppose, but certainly an issue in books I really don't care about.

I'm a theist and I think those questions (at least considered as philosophical arguments) are useless to dealing with the world.
