Did I do well?

Pretentious shitty book.

is this the most insecure board?

I literally just did the same thing. I normally would have read the footnotes, but it was an ebook without any hyperlinks and I was too lazy to manually jump back and forth.

I still enjoyed the novel, long and rambling and incoherent as it was. I just wish it had a more satisfying conclusion.

This. That happened to me, but I read it on paper (the footnotes were all at the end of the book). Felt the same about conclusion and book overall

Wtf. Many of the notes are multi paged. They matter, ok? Bet you don't even know how or why Pemulis got expelled hahaha.

>> No.9845341

There are entire /extremely/ important chapters in the footnotes.

Also the footnotes are funny as fuck I don't know why anyone would ignore them.

You did desu now re read :3

>> No.9845563

you literally miss 1/10 of the novel if you don't read the endnotes.

>> No.9845567

how much longer would the book have been if the endnotes were in the font size of the rest

You did absolutely fine. I got about two thirds of the way through before stopping and was reading all the footnotes; They didn't add anything.

Good advice here. Also anon don't forget to delete system32 to make your computer run faster.

You have to begin by reading the very long footnotes. And scan through and read the ones referenced as subX. This is sort of like the cinematic in media res.

Next you read the introduction chapter reg. Hal's application to what was it Harvard? Skip ahead to Wardine because you're mostly curious about it and it's half the reason you picked up the book. Then you want to read 127-181, and 972-981 in one sitting. From here you read the book without annotations, hopefully you have a good vocabulary of pharmaceuticals and french or you'll have to just look it up sometimes. Next you read from the footnotes and focus specifically on the sections which they appear in; this is the marinating period. Finally you finish by reading the whole thing with no interruptions s/a entertainment or obsessions along with the footnotes like a regular person might and now you've absorbed infinite jest the way it was meant to be.

You missed a good part of the book, so I'm guessing you didn't understand a lot anyway..
