I love purseus latin word study from Tufts University. Plus librivox for latin recordings, Seneca, Virgil, Ovid, etc....

The best way honestly. Drill vocab, make sure you understand the grammar (eventually just read Allen & Short cover to cover), and read the stories.

I've never met someone taught with Wheelock who could sight-read worth a shit.
