it doesn't deserve an acronym, that's what we think. get this female written trash outta here, punkass.

I read this like 9 years ago in high school. Really, really disliked it. Might feel different about it now.

Actual trash. I felt dumber having read it.
has a good book even come out of the "poor Latinx in America" genre?

Just read it again recently, I still hate it. The ending is so contrived and I really didn't like any of the characters, although youre not really supposed to? It's a book for 15 year old girls.

Trash. Chicano literature is fucking garbage and I say this as a spic myself.

Probably the worst thing I had to read in HS.

One of the only books where the prose made me angry. I can usually suffer through clunky prose, but this was hard. Everything in this book is perfectly designed to be as irritating as possible. And it's only like, a hundred pages.

i lost my virginity to a young woman whose last name is cisneros.

I never had sex with her, but I kissed a girl with this surname. Would have liked to smash, but she was 17 and I was 19.

I only read an excerpt with the latino woman crying because her child was singing the pepsi commercial. Yeah...

i distinctly remember reading this in my high school freshman lit course. When we discussed the themes everyone would say "poverty and racism." Everyone hated it thankfully.
It makes me sad that about half of what we read was chosen because of muh sexism or racism but not something that was chosen for its merit. No wonder i was playing 6 hours of Battlefield a day without touching a book until they showed us good stuff in AP lang/lit.
