Have you tried reading books that you've already read in English, but in French? I did that with a few Harry Potter books in 12th grade, and I'd recommend that you read something of the same caliber (something that's easy, but hard enough to exercise your studies and teach you some new things).

I thought I was hot shit after one year of self-study in French, so I tried some Baudelaire and Proust. I didn't understand shit. One last thing: Don't read anything too old; it might contain syntax or dialogue that's dated.
