hey /lit/

Is it possible to find specific types of irony within Kafkas metamorphosis?

It seems like the entire work is ironic and the irony that exists within is derived from its ironic nature.

irony trolling irony trolling irony

so fucking confused

this novella is fucking crazy and i think thats the way it was meant to be

any opinions?

I bought The Metamorphosis for 10 dollars, and it's over 200 pages, yet the actual story itself is only 56 :S

kafka never let any artists draw what's his name as a bug when they drew pictures for his story

This was on of the few that he saw published

ironic that he died kind of like gregor relying on others to provide for him due to illness. Almost like hemmingway without the bad assness of a shot gun suicide

What did you picture him looking like? I thought of a centipede/cockroach/praying mantis

thats the thing... i think he wanted readers to draw there own picture of what this horrible creature looks like. Nabokov thinks he is beetle and he is pretty smart so i dunno

The Metamorphosis is one of the few stories that I think about every single day. I've heard that Gregor Samsa's transformation is meant to represent depression, and that makes sense. Gregor hides in his room. When people come into his room, he hides underneath the furniture because he is ashamed of what he has become and because he scares his family.

Other than the Metamorphosis, the only other story I've read by Kafka is The Trial. I thought it was all right, but most of the time it was rather boring.

ive completed my assignments regarding this book but i still can't comprehend its meaning. Seems like the deeper i get the more complex it becomes. Kinda like a Mandelbrot fractal.

since my lifestyle has recently changed into a hermit-like one, my view of this story is that it is about liberation from dependents and becoming a dependent yourself. Much like the process of aging. One day you just wake up and you're old, and it sucks.

From a site on etymology:
"Shat is a humorous past tense form, not etymological, first recorded 18c."

Really the low point of my day/week was looking for that. Also, that is a screen shot from a flash text adventure game about not shitting your pants, so even if it wasn't grammatically correct, which it was, its not like I wrote it or animated it, I just used it sarcastically.

I saw Gregor's troubles as a criticism of action. Kafka, perhaps unwittingly, was ridiculing, yet validating, the existential call for action.

Not in a direct way, Kafka demonstrated that the existence of a human is rarely understood. More so, the essence of a human is neither.

The pointlessness of your argument is paralleled in The Metamorphosis

neat

>> No.954798

I read the novel a while ago and from what I remember, the way I interpreted Gregor's transformation was as a punishment. He turns into this lowly creature because as a human he acted like he wasn't worth more than that. He bowed down to his supperiors and to his father and never revolted like (maybe) he should have. He dies because even becoming whatever he becomes doesn't make him react, he just accepts his fate.
