Nah flip that shit around. Protestants are fucking terrible because they believe they can sin all they want and reach salvation merely because of their belief. The lack of a hierarchy also allows idiots with no contextual knowledge of the Bible to (mis)interpret it and create a church around that person's interpretation.

The focus on good acts within the Catholic tradition, and the rigid hierarchy and study of the Bible are excellent.

This.

When you have a group accusing your religious leader of being the literal whore of babylon, an obsession with creationism in 21st century, and none-stop autisitic arguments that splinter the religion endlessly, you know you are dealing with a cooky group.

As a Phil grad very influenced by Aristotle, I like how a lot of early Catholic theology is influenced by him, and the concept of virtue is modified but is still kept relatively similar.

The Protestants completely shook off this element when they gave up Catholic tradition as a whole. Such a damn shame it became so popular.

The first poster is cheeky but really gets at a great kernel of truth about the general anti-protestantism on 4chan. Understand on the one hand that protestant faiths are of course not true, but more importantly, it should happen that the people who post anti-protestant sentiments on 4chan be made to understand that their sentiments are the more baseless and unwarranted, in that they are culturally more entrenched in the deeper lie.

It goes like this: There is no such thing as a religion, because in the English language, the word religion has deep ties to notions of "truth, religion, goodness" and so on. Rather, there are only cults that stuck, and which have perfected their language games to re-legitimate themselves, despite all themselves at one point or another having been just as precarious and false as the newer offshoots.

The false "intellectual" tradition of older religions is what allows false conceits such as the OP's image to perpetuate themselves. This is the fetishism for reading the Summa, say, though of course almost no users actually do so at length. It is not /truth/, but a /fetish for comfortable historical shared culture/. This is the seduction and the falsity of religious experience in general, which is a cohesive storytelling among human beings which yet remains false in the long view.

Aristotle is garbage. You cannot help but understand, at bottom, that Aristotle is Muh History and garbage, by simple dint of the century in which it was your lot to be born, and how you comport yourself in your personal daily life. For you, Aristotle is an entertainment, as is the Muh Impractical History charity towards the old church proclaimed in your post.

What you do really /mean/ when you say that you "like" how early Catholic theology is influenced by him? Perhaps all that you really mean is that it's been fun to read about history up-to-this-point and to be educated on same, so that you can better hold forth on such-and-such topics. This is then an uncritical and convenient tack on things which is easily amenable to valid skepticism.

And in any event there's a cross-pollenation hypocrisy here, which a real Christian must address at some point (the pagan influence by way of rediscovering the Greeks throughout the Columban era, the renaissance, etc). But of course we never address real Christians, whatever that means, and instead only address the cultural hypocrisies around Catholicism and other old Cults.

I think most Protestants would retaliate by saying a Catholic can sin all they want as long as they get a priest to absolve them. Would this be incorrect to say?
