Who's writing the IJ of the internet age? Who's young and really good?

there are probably a hundred 'david foster wallace' types slumming it right now, trying to get their masterpiece published but to no avail

the truth is that the demos who read books are retarded these days, so they're never going to get published or probably even noticed. if you want to see the next rising star of literature, you should check tumblr periodically, or wherever else young retarded girls hang out

How did IJ get published then? It wasn't long ago.

Because DFW first showed his potential with a conventional Pynchonesque novel, and then a short story collection, and then a book of non-fiction. He was a "name" in the industry and had people encouraging him to write. Some nerdy straight white male writing a 1,200 page novel in his mom's attic will be laughed at today, unless he has a similar background. And so he should be. Fuck white people.

Everything I've read by someone under 30 has been extremely short. I doubt you're wrong, but I can't see why it has to be that way. I'm fairly sure most people here hate Tao Lin, but I can't think of another young writer that you have to work hard to read.

Tao Lin. He's basically a straight white male in Asian camouflage so he gets a chance.

Thanks, I saw that thread but didn't commit it to memory.
