>start writing book
>get some reasonably positive feedback
>pleased
>read book from favourite author
>inevitably compare it with what you've made
>feel like you can never compete
>abandon book

I wish I was industrious enough to finish a book before I get to that point.

You people are pathetic. You'll only improve by continually trying and assessing. Being overly self-critical will only hold you back.

"Writers" are the worst. If they aren't amazing from the beginning, they get depressed and cry and never want to write again. How often do you see beginner carpenters not able to make a decent looking table go "fuck I just want to kill myself because I can't make those beautifully carved mahogany kitchens like those master carpenters, it's all pointless I'll never be a great carpenter"

Literally the only advice anybody can give you is going to sound like a meme, yet it will be true.

Write because it satisfies you personally and makes you happy. Just keep doing it even when you're churning out shit. Stop being a bitch and write.

I'm pretty sure that both scenarios involves the assumption that the person starts another book afterwards and doesn't just stop forever.

This.

To compose a book is very easy.

To edit and prepare and publish it is another beast of its own which is included in the craft of writing.

I can imagine hiring a roofer and one day while he's working hear a thud outside. When I look, he's dead from jumping headfirst, and when I look at the roof, there's a tile glued in the wrong spot.

just put the book out, fuck it

i don't know what writing is to you or the objective, but to me it's just capturing layers of human subconscious which aren't perfect in themselves, and just going with whatever comes to mind and making it sound as if someone is telling the story as personal as they can

human shit is flawed, no singular book is going to be approved by fucking everyone, even the english dictionary probably has it's critics simply because it contains the word 'moist'

When I was young a roofer fell off my neighbor's house and died. The end.

How often do you see carpenters go "fuck I can't write a decent book" and then go jump off the roof of your neighbor's house because a a shingle is misglued with you following close behind????

>costantly see NEETs on /lot/ writing aimlessly and getting depressed when they discover that they're works are not that good
>tfw I explain to at least 2 anons everyday that talent does not work that way, and that they should still formally study the properties of their native language, the national and international most important classics and, more generally, to put more time (which they obviously have) into their craft

>tfw everyday other 10 anons pop up, claiming to be depressed because they have not written a Shakespeare play in their first attempt
>tfw there is not enough time for me to explain to all of them how talent, art and craftmanship work
>tfw one day I'll stop altogether, but the flow of depressed writers who lack the most basic insights on this art won't

creating stories is easy, putting them into words its hard. Dont get discouraged by what some people say on the internet.

Take their adivice with a grain of salt because everyone will try to get you to write the book they want you to write.

Write for yourself, if you read the book afterwards and enjoy it then somebody else out there will like it too. Dont get concerned with "critics" or tendencies.

Have a primary career or job so that you are truly free to write whatever the fuck you want.
Use a pen name if pussy.

I feel you anon. It makes me burn with anger that I see so many pathetic people get depressed, because they are pussies.

Its like /lit/ is a house that is on fire from the inside. With all the anons inside whining about their books. And I want to save them from the dangerous fire that will soon consume them. However these anons do not understand the concept of danger and are not aware of the fire that is surrounding the house from the outside.
So they do not listen to me.

I'll have you know that some of us are depressed by our poor work ethic rather than our lack of talent.
