I remember reading this book in elementary school.

It was hyped to shit by all of the teachers and the librarian. I read it and thought it was retarded and overrated. Then I picked up a copy of The Stranger and realized everyone in elementary school was a retard in comparison to me.

I have a VHS of the movie based on this book. It's pretty decent, although it leaves a few things out like the egg eating and sparrow cooking.

Dogsong was better. I read it at age five, and totally did not understand the bits about the protagonist finding a pregnant woman out in the snow. It was heavily implied that they fucked, but I didn't get it.

Hatchet was rad, I read it three times in middle school, however THE FUCKING WATERCOLOR ON THE FRONT PISSED ME OFF

FUCK IT'S SO UGLY, I MEAN, YOU'RE LOOKING AT IT AND IT'S OKAY UNTIL YOU REALIZE THAT YOU CAN'T SEE SHIT BECAUSE THERE IS A TRANSPARENT GREY HATCHET IN THE WAY OF FUCKING EVERYTHING

AND THEN YOU SEE THAT TRANSPARENT WOLF HOWLING AT THE TRANSPARENT MOON AND YOU JUST WISH THAT THE AUTISTIC FINGERPAINTER WHO CREATED THIS ATROCITY WOULD HAVE HANDED OFF THE ASSIGNMENT TO SOMEBODY WHO ACTUALLY HAD SOME ARTISTIC TALENT

But the part where he was eating frozen dinners was pretty sweet.

Meh, I was reading all the entry-level classics back then.

Where the Red Fern Grows and The Giver were what I read for class, but I didn't think they were very profound.

London, Stevenson and Dumas were my homeboys in those days.

I bet he went fucking nuts.

The worst book I've ever read. It may've been good when I read it when I was... hmmm.. SEVEN, but when I attended high school, sixteen and seventeen year olds would cite this along with Harry Potter as one of their favorite books. WHAT
