How to write about an epic travel, where the message is the travel itself, not the goal?

Have you yourself ever taken an epic travel in which you understood that the message was the travel itself and not the goal?

In my own experience, trying to write something like this without having done it - but wanting to imply that I had some kind of knowledge - failed, and failed hard.

Go travel.

It's foolish. If someone were to recommend it to you, you'd spend the entire book overanalyzing and thinking "I slipped on a rock" is some sort of mega deep metaphor.
