Is this the best book in the tetralogy? It's the most introverted, philosophic, and scenic of the four with the most lucid storytelling. Some if the passages are absolute poetry, and the action carries a style and air of seriousness that is lost in the turbulence of the other 3 books.

Tell me I'm wrong, this is the best thing Wolfe wrote.

My favourite part is the fight with the Archon and the parallels to Satan and Jesus in the Desert.

Definitely the best of the four, agree wholeheartedly.

Yes, Wolfe is an amazing wrier, but this towers above all else he wrote. It's absolutely amazing.

I enjoyed Wolfe so much I started reading the writers who influenced him. GK Chesterton and Borges. People shit on genre fiction, but Wolfe is literary, and is helping to bring up the general SF+F readership.
